Lowgap, NC USA - Friday, November 30, 2001 at 17:41:09 (PST)I,m most definatly one of the old school flyfishers, in almost all aspects of our beloved activity. Behind me is a lot of memories and experiences; fishing most of America's legendary rivers and streams coast to coast in our trusty RV and meeting a lot of really good people all along the way. Sitting in some fantastic out of the way albethey little known shops with capes and materials you don't find in the big named yuppie shops whos names adorn magazines and other commercial modalities of the industry! Places serving as the gathering place for some of the really BIG names in the fly fishing industry, who came there to escapse the hype and flash, to just sit and tie with low impact folks. Yes, there truely is a counter culture and its thank the lord; alive and well all across america! Your site is good, and it brings an exceptional balance into the screens of legions of flyfishers, and that is cool.Id say youll come to know of me since I came across your site. Well done folks! Edmonton, AB Canada - Thursday, November 29, 2001 at 03:20:38 (PST)My grateful thanks to FAOL member Doug Shockley for telling me about this great site.Thank you Doug.Ihave been trout fishingfrom about 10yr old to the present age 69.Ihope for a lot longer yet.Started here in the "king country"of nz with wormsin the local streams, then to spinning gear, then finally flyfishing etc.Have fished in most parts of nz from Otago in the South Is, to the Waikato/Rotorua region here in the North Is.Ihave a monstrous long list of troutfishing web sites on my puter "favourites"section, but after having a look around FAOLI think Ican delete 95% of them.Iam amazed at the easily accessible info so readily available.Just as well I have unlimited time available in my puter contract!Iam a keen flytyer, and enjoy stalking large crafty brouns here in the bush streams and around lake edges, using usually my favourite nymphs,Hare& copper{big hairies} and Pheasant Tails. Glad to chat anytime. Regards, John McGregor. John McGregor <jj_mcgregor@hotmail.com>
Waharoa, New Zealand - Sunday, November 25, 2001 at 00:07:22 (PST) I've been an avid outdoors man for long time.My earlier years I used bamboo poles. later I became efficient with Spin cast combos. I wasn't until one day my father let me have his fly rod just to try. I came home that evening with the biggest trout I ever caught.Since then I've been hooked. My biggest regret is that I haven't hooked a salmon, maybe this summer it will happen. I just stumbled on to this site and I really enjoy it. If any one has any fly patterns which they would like to share please contact me via E-mail. Thanks. This site will help make the long NF winter seem shorter

Cincinnati, oh USA - Friday, November 02, 2001 at 15:58:07 (PST)Some time has now passed since the September 11 events. Still I feel the pain that the American People must feel.
In Australia we remember our fallen comrades each year on Anzac Day. On that day a small prayer is said by people all over the country as a mark of respect and rememberance. I send this prayer as a mark of respect and rememberance to the victims and their families.
"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
Lest we forget..."

Portland, CT USA - Tuesday, October 30, 2001 at 18:27:45 (PST)Thanks for the great site. I am new to fly fishing and have found endless amounts of usefull information in your excellent site. Most of my fishing has been salt water as fortunately I live a short distance from some good tidal flats. Although I have tried some freshwater in a few local impoundments. It is very dry here at the moment, so our rivers are not an option unfortunately. No trout this far north, main freshwater species targeted here are bass, yellow perch and further north, barramundi. Well can't talk for too long, I have to go fishing. Thanks again. Brad Barrett <bradbrrtt@aol.com.au>

East Jordan, Mi USA - Monday, October 22, 2001 at 14:46:05 (PDT)I have been visiting this site for about 4 months now, since I started flyfishing. Thanks to the excellent advice of the people here, I have purchased supplies and materials from several of the sponsers, and am in the process of recieving catalogs from many others. Additionally I have purchased 2 new rods, from two of the sponsers on this website. I don't feel I am making a poor choice, even though I have never had the opportunity to even see either rod. I have spend many hours searching the net for other flyfishing websites, and to this date, have found none that even come close to the wealth of information available here. The contributions of the independent authors are amazing, and the corrospondance with individuals has been both insightfull and informative. a great help and it is good to see attention to detail in all that you write about, your site seems to cover every aspect of interest to me, namely FISHING,. Old Greenwich, CT USA - Sunday, September 16, 2001 at 09:48:54 (PDT)As a Charter Member of "Friends of Fly Anglers OnLine," as a part
of the group of fly anglers that helps contribute to each weeks edition
of Fly Anglers OnLine, as an American, and a Platoon Sargeant, US Army,
Retired, I wish to say a heart felt, "Thank You" to everyone in the world,
who having heard the news of Tuesday Sept 11th.,stopped and cried, and
said a prayer for us all. For it was not just America that was attacked,
but the whole civilized world. Every person who breaths air and has
life was attacked by those who do not respect life, or respect the
rights of the innocent people of the world to live in peace. Our grief
is deep and has been burned into our very souls. So I ask all to pray
for us, that we may see our way thru this trial that we face, so we
will not stoop or lower ourselves to that level of these terrorist's
who inflicted this pain. May God the creator of us all, bless you and
keep you... Steven H McGarthwaite (AKA: Parnelli) <ParnelliMN@aol.com>

Burnie, Tas Australia - Wednesday, September 12, 2001 at 00:03:39 (PDT)Great informative site. I went trout fishing for the first time last month and I was hooked (no pun intended). I fish the Current River in Montauk State Park here in Missouri which has rainbows and browns, so if anyone has any pointers for me I would appreciate it. Donnie Lagemann <donnie_lagemann@excite.com>

Savannah, GA USA - Thursday, September 06, 2001 at 06:03:53 (PDT)I would appreciate any information anyone can give me on the value of a Wright & McGill Rod Co. bamboo rod left to me by my husband. The Rod bears the name "Granger Favorite", is an 8 1/2' three piece rod and includes an extra tip section. The Pat date is 4/12/12 #2114107. The rod is encased in a cloth sleeve inside an aluminum case. There are no numbers or names on the aluminum case. My husband passed away recently, and I would like to sell this rod, but don't know the value. I did a little "net" research and found a value of $725-$750; but was told by someone locally that the value was half that. I would like to get an unbiased opinion. Any help will be greatly appreciated! e-mail: v8mercy@acsworld.net mercy <v8mercy@acsworld.net>

newhamburg, ont canada - Saturday, August 18, 2001 at 09:41:13 (PDT)I think this site is TERRIFIC, and want to say thanks to everyone involved in making it possible & maintaining it. Growing up in the country in western PA with a small crick running through our front yard, I can't remember not fishing. I have been a fly fishing enthusiast since 1967, when at the ripe old age of thirteen; I purchased my first fly rod & reel at a church rummage sale for $1. It was the beginning of a passion that remains as strong today as it was in my youth. Since moving to Ohio in 75, my fly-fishing has consisted of ponds, lakes, and rivers, pursuing the likes of Bass, Crappie, Bluegill, Steelhead, Stripe Bass, Carp, and my latest endeavor for Muskie with a fly. However, I never really felt like a true 'fly fisherman', because I've never attempted to tie a fly on anything smaller than a #12 hook, I don't know the names of all the famous trout patterns, mainly because I haven't been able to afford the time nor the expense of traveling to suitable trout streams. (It hasn't been too long ago that I had to budget for an Orvis catalog!) At long last, the kids are through college & the farm is paid for – so look out trout. The point I am trying to make is I never realized there were so many fly fishing enthusiasts that pursue species other than Trout, and this site has made me aware. It's comforting to know that the 'illness' that my fishing friends refer to my obsession with using a fly rod is not an isolated case. Mark Lowden <mlowden@byesville.net>

thunder bay, ontario canada - Saturday, July 07, 2001 at 03:12:15 (PDT)I had been drowning worms, lizards; burning crankbaits, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits; jigging, popping and all the rest of the bassfishing scenario for years. And, had the "good" 2 or 3 bass day on more than many occasion. Then a friend and coworker wanted to "bond" with his son and thought fishing would do it. To skip forward, he got into fly and became a fanatic. Chiding me for years to try it, I refused to involve myself in that "sissy" fishing until late last year. I bought a reasonably inexpensive outfit just to prove fly was for non-fishing fools.
I've caught more fish, of more species, in about 90 days of flyfishing than I had in 15 years of bassin'. Is my face red? Jim Sentell <jsentell@citnet.com>

Lee's Summit, MO USA - Friday, June 15, 2001 at 20:30:33 (PDT)I've been fly fishing for about 30 yrs. for everything from Kings to Gills in the wonderfull state of Washington. I currently have it in for largemouth, and smallmouth bass and big Bull Bluegills. I enjoy showing my buddy that you can catch thwm on something other than rubber worms. Since I began searching the web early this year, yours is the most complete and accomodating site I have found. It ROCKS!!
The fly tying features are especially time consuming. Now I have a place to go to get all the answers I need without waiting for a "next months edition". I can get it when I want it. Now. False cast once, mend twice. Cary Morlan <carynon@bossig,com>
Moses Lake, Wa. USA - Friday, June 15, 2001 at 19:49:32 (PDT)Having been a fisherman most of my 40 years, ranging from bass tournaments to international fishing trips, the excitement was not the same as before.....then I picked up a fly rod....WOW ! I spent a week with a book and a tape then went on a guided trout fishing trip. I was hooked! As I am new to the sport, there is so much to learn, and am currently seeking local organizations that will be willing to share information, and not make the 'new guy' feel inferior because he doesn't have a gazillion years experience with a fly rod, if anyone in the KC area reads this, and can point me in the right direction, I would be grateful

I have a box of tackle stashed somewhere if I can just find it. But the fly tying and fishing seem to be my main intrest. Three, soon to be four (any time now) grandchildren are an added incentive. Fishing buddies are good, but when their little its more fun, especialy if they grow to be big ones. My son now has my fly tying "stuff" and is teaching me. I am self taught, he took classes. Flowery Branch, GA USA - Friday, April 06, 2001 at 09:45:19 (PDT)I got the address to youre page,he's also a fly fisher.
I just started fly fishing two years ago, mainly salmon
but I have fished with a spinning rod before for about
13 years.I mainly fished for trout, then my father got me into fly fishing.I received a new fly rod, reel, line and
fly box with the a few salmon flies in it.I bought my own neoprene chest wadders and a liecence anb started to fish
some of the local rivers. On the rivers I met many different
fly fishers most of which gave tips, showed me pointers on
my casting and also traded flies. In my second year I was very sick and tired of looseing flies(3 dollars per fly!!)
So I went to a fishing store(Fishen Fever)where the people
were very nice and helpful with me to find a fly tying kit.
It was filled with most of the tools(the baiscs)a bunch of
hackle,fur,dubbing,yarn,feathers,tinsel,etc and a book on
different fly patterns. At first it took me so long to tie one fly but slowly I got better at it.This summer I am going to try for trout with my flies.
Anyone with a good salmon or trout fly pattern could you please send it to my adderss below?

Spirit Lake, ID USA - Thursday, March 08, 2001 at 12:23:35 (PST)Being an unflinching do-it-yourselfer, I have learned flytying by watching and attempting to duplicate pictures with a bit of experimentation. Although I've been flyfishing for a long time, I've only been tying for about 7 years. I am finding, though, that I'm missing an understanding of some terms used to describe common techniques. The lessons you have layed out are exacty what I need....THANK YOU! I'm planning on printing out many of the lessons and patterns and binding them for easy use at my bench.

Started with your beginner series and have worked through intermediate. It is by far and above the best instructional on flytying techniques I've read either on the internet or in print. My flies actually look and act like they should and even catch a fish or two now and again. Congratulations to Al Campbell on such excellent work. Warrenton, Va USA - Friday, January 19, 2001 at 07:30:54 (PST)I was looking on internet for someone with my surname and saw Peter Gorinski as a fisherman. My son Heath is 21years old and spent more time fly fishing the Tongariro in Taupo New Zealand than attending school. Each weekend he brings home his limit of three per day and uses catch and release. Usual catch and release is 21 per day. There is nothing in this world more than flyfishing for my son Heath. Well bye off this weekend fishing. I suppose our cat will enjoy the catch. We are a little fished out with rainbows. If a passionate fisherman visits New Zealand and wants to share his love he would be happy to talk to you in between his hours and hours on the river. Hope this locates Peter Gorinski.
