Ah, but the joy of being the swapmeister. After seeing the direction of the first sets of flies I decided I needed to step out of the box. You’re in for a surprise. JGW

Three came in today’s mail. Two to go. Soon as they’re here we’ll ship. Hopefully to arrive before Thanksgiving . . . as promised. Fun swap. JGW

Mailed mine Friday the 11th, Veterans Day so the Post Office was closed. I’d suspect you’ll get them in a day or two.

Mike (Kahuna) – I got some yellows in the mail. Those yours? Neat flies and assuming they’re for this swap. Thanks. JGW

Tuesday was the deadline and I still haven’t heard a peep from Gardenfish. No flies, no responce to e-mail. If nothing tonight the flies fly on Thursday. JGW

Thanks, Gardenfish!!! All the flies are in. I’ll do some photography tonight and mail them in the morning. Hopefully you participants will be as thrilled as I am with the results. JGW

Folks, the “homing” turkeys have been released into the air!!! Hope you’ve had as much fun with this as I have. I can’t to hear what your reactions will be, and I truly appreciate the spirit everyone showed in this swap. And, of course, they mystery. Hopefully we’ll do something like this once again. And, special thanks to Diane’s Quaker for the inspiration! Happy Thanksgiving. JGW

ps: I’ll be sharing this with Doug Smith with the Minneapolis Star Tribune who was on the hunt where the turkey met it’s demise – and gave rise to some incredible creativity.

Received an excellent bunch of flies today. Not a Turkey in the lot.Excellent imagination and a great variety of flys from just three turkey feathers.
Thanks John for hosting and for letting me be part of the swap.

Featherfastener

thanks folks. super flies!
My recipe is ez. The tail and the wing are from the tips of the feathers. For the body I dubbed the frizz (I forget the literal name) stuff at the bottom of the shaft. So you each have an all turkey fly. The trout will love them. Iused Daiichi hooks. They seem to be the sharpest.

My pattern is from right here! FAOL!

I Substituted “Mardi-Gra” beads for the eyes and copper wire for the ribbing.
Ed Engelman is the one who got me started useing these Mardi-Gra beads . You can get them at Part Shops in all different colors for about a buck a string.
Thanks!
