Holy cow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not sure if this is the appropriate place for this post (if it’s not, JC/LF, please feel free to move it), but thought it would be of interest to you fellow 'boo nuts:

http://portland.craigslist.org/spo/188450706.html

I figure if 10-15 of us got in on this it would most definitely be worth it. Basically, it’ll end up running us about $28/rod!!! If say 10 of us got together on this, we’d each be getting 10(!) rods for $280! Please email me if you’d be interested in this. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got a puddle of drool I need to mop up…

Alright, thought I’d bump this. I’m going up to take a look at this guys collection on Wednesday evening. I’ll do a rough “inventory” of his rods, and if I’ve got at least 10 people interested by then, I’ll give him a deposit for the lot to hold them till he gets the rest of the payment. Again, feel free to email me if you’d be interested in this.

Holy Cow is Right!
There has to be enough boo sticks in that mess to build at least 10-20 rods. Maybe even some that don’t need a refurb. I wish I had the ware-with-all to help out. But, alas, I’ll have to let someone else go for the glory. Man, would that be fun or what?
God Bless,

Actually, from what the guy has told me, there’s about 100 complete rods there. Can’t wait to see them tomorrow night.

I have actually been thinking, and beginning to shop for, an old rod to refinish. I dont have a “boo” (I actually have my grandfathers old rod, but its not fished - certainly not using that for re-finishing practice) and have been looking for some. I really couldnt afford to be one of 10 right now, but could maybe swing being one of 20. From the post it doesn’t look like you have that much interest, but I thought I would throw it out there anyway. Let me know what you come up with. I wonder how someone gets so many darn rods, more importantly - why am I not that person!?

Hey Photojoe,
I’d be interested in one that is good to go. I’m not a rod builder, so the refurbs wouldn’t do me any good. If they have something in a 3-5wt, 7-8.5 foot, that would be awesome.

Wow. I went to look at the rods, and it was better than I expected. I thought that it would be just a mass of parts for various rods, but that wasn’t the case. This guy has over 100 (120 he estimates) rods and they’re COMPLETE. A number have already been refurbished, and the most work I saw that any of them needed was a couple of tip tops needing replaced. I didn’t have a look at every single rod (all 100+ of them), but I’d estimate that it breaks down like this: of the 100 rods, I’d say 1/4 of them are Montys, 1/4 South Bend, 1/4 HI, and 1/4 Heddon. There’s also a few of those Japanese imported rods (the one that can be used as either a fly rod or a spinning rod). He told me he’d give me until the 12th before he puts the ad back up. If I can’t get 10(or more) people intersted in it by then, he’ll put the ad back up, and he may start to sell off a rod here and there (he collects fishing lures, so when he finds one he wants, he usually sells a rod or 2 to pay for it). Email me if you’re interested in this, and I’ll email you my phone number so we can talk it over.

Hi Joe,

If you get something going on this and need another participant, let me know.

Harry

Anyone interested in partnering up with me? I just can’t afford to go in full on this because of some surprise expenses (the darn’d car again…). I really hope that someone can because I might just be eating spageti-o’s for a couple of weeks cause this seems like such a good deal. Send me an email if interested in going in, but questioning your ability to go in full.

while hot the highest end stuff there are some goodies in there. I’d be interested if the price was right. I could do without the monty sunbeams(blue reel seats in the pic) I’ve already got 3 of those.

And I volunteer to be the referee, arbitrator and medic for the fight that WILL happen when this cache is divided among the participants. Should be a BLAST.

Mark

Well, once we get enough people interesteed in this (right now there’s 4, counting myself), we can decide how to divide up the rods. My thought was trying to sort them out so that each participant gets 2 of each brand (2 South Bend, 2 Montys, 2 HI’s, 2 Heddons). If one person isn’t interested in any of the ones that need work, I’d be willing to take them, but my “share” would have to be less. Oh, also, my idea for payment is that each participant send their share of the $2800 directly to the seller (Tony). I’ll pass along his contact info so you can get in touch with him directly (actually, it’s on the craigslist ad as well). And Marco, your arbitration skills would be most appreciated.

Freakin’ sweet!!! Sounds like we have 6 people (counting Cheffy, Harry and myself) that are interested! Now we just need 4 more (which should NOT be hard to get in a week). And so far the seller has not called me to say that the rods have been sold, so we’re still in the running.

Just a little “bump”. Would’ve done it sooner, but I’ve been busy catching fish. And eating more blueberries. And rasberries. And catching fish. Oh, wait, mentioned that already, didn’t I?

I’d be interested as well in 1 or 2 rods. Would be hard for me to swing 6.

Well, I haven’t gone through every rod this guy has. Once I get 10 people interested, I’ll go back up there and give the guy a deposit (my share of the $2800). At that time, I’ll go through and do a complete inventory of his rods, and we can divide them up from there. I’ll do my best to make sure everyone gets an equal “share” of the rods, but with 100+ rods to go through, I can’t really make any guaruntees as to which rods each person will get. If there’s one particular rod in the bunch that one person wants, and if all 10 of us agree on it, then I have no problem letting you have that rod (I’m really not to particular about which 10 rods I get out of this).

As to those who are wanting 1 or 2 rods, most likely what I will be doing if this thing goes through, is that I will sell of 3-4 of my 10 rods to cover the cost of the purchase. But this may take a while, since it’s going to take some time to get all 100 rods sorted and sent off to their new owners. But when I sell them, I’m not going to be looking to make any sort of profit on them really, so they’ll probably be going for somewhere around $70-100/rod, again, just to cover my costs.

Something else for those involved to keep in mind is the cost of shipping. I can’t imagine it would run more than $15-20 for shipping, just realize that you’ll have to include that in the payment. So, if there are 10 of us, the final cost would probably be about $300, including shipping. I may have the seller handle the shipping, since all the payments for the rods will be going to him. Again, feel free to email me with any other questions/concerns.

Joe, How many people do we have total so far? I think it might be a good idea if those interested in only a few rods get together to become a full “share holder” (or whatever you want to call it). I tried to feel out for interest in this earlier, but later decided to go in full. (I have no financial willpower) I will also likely be selling some of the rods over the next year or so to cover costs.

On a side note: It would be really cool if we could set up some sort of “rod draft” like they do for fantasy sports leagues. That would probably be a ton of work though (and I have no idea how you would set something like that up), but it would still be cool. Maybe if we get a good list together and send it out to everyone, then we could meet in a chat room at an arranged time. We could then figure out a ?choosing order? and just go around until there are no rods left. Another idea that I had would be to just sort everything out by brand and then by quality, and to then distribute from top to bottom. Just some thoughts…

Count me in as one of the ten.

If’n ya need another fish, we’ll give’er a shot. Let us know.
…lee s.

Well well well, looks like we’ve got our 10!!! If everyone who’s interested could please email me (Photojoe4@aol.com) to confirm, that would be most helpful. Once I hear back from you guys, I’ll head up to do an invertory of the rods, and to put down a deposit, probably on Friday or Saturday. I’ll keep bumping this till then, in case someone else might be interested in getting in on this.
