Czech Nymph: Tying Materials

What is the material and where do ya get it for the back and or case of the Czech type nymphs?

I just cut up a sandwich baggie.

This works great, and it’s from an FAOL sponsor:

The list of materials you can use for this is endless - from sausage casing to strips cut from a latex glove, to other “unmentionable” latex items.

traditionally it was cut from an opaque surgical glove

originally is was made from salami skins

its in the book

I have recently "discovered " that Thin Skin is actually a little to thick and that surgical glove material, clear tyvek or heavy duty bag material works best.

Check this out. Andy Burk tying a czech nymph.

I use the ‘clear elastic’ they sell at fabric stores for use in ladies swim suits…

Buddy

well Normand opinions vary, I am taking the word of Oliver Edwards on this one, and that man is one knowedgable guy. Perhaps Hans can chime in on this one?

ya i guess people writing books are dummies.

well I suppose sarcasm is really gonna help here eh Normand

I think the point is that it really doesn’t matter WHAT you use.

The trout don’t care.

The flies look fine with ANY of the things listed.

Lots of folks write books. We all KNOW that ANYONE who actually writes a book MUST be ‘the’ expert on the subject they are writing about…I mean, if they wrote it, it just has to be the only correct way to do whatever it is they wrote about, right? Once ‘they’ write it down, no one can EVER inovate or experiment or do it differently without being ‘wrong’…

Sorry, but I know some of the guys who have written some of the books.

Nothing in the act of writing a book suggests, per se, that they know more than you do. It just means that they took the time and effort to write the book and get it published…there are fly tyers here that are more knowledgeable and skilled than most who do write books…writing and fly tying are different skills…not to mention the fact that a book once written becomes ‘static’ in time. New information, inovation, and experimentation will pass it by, often making portions of it obsolete or at least ‘dated’ by the time it hits the shelf…

I do like the sarcasm, though. One of my favorite means of conveying a point…

Buddy

Gee, I would have SWORN, I read somewhere, (probably in a BOOK), that “Sarcasm, was linked to certain types of cancer”?
I, never used it, just use real sugar to sweeten things.
Buddy, you also brought up an interesting point about “static” info with books…
Now, that fly fishing has seen “Colorado Nymphing”, Utah Nymphing" and at least another, dozen “Killer Nymphing Techniques” and NOW "Czech Nymphing is “all the rage”, what’s going to be NEXT?
We can’t use, Czech Nymping in Oregon, due to the “two flies max, rule” so maybe I’ll take up “Bulgarian San Juan Worming”!?! I’m sure, it’s “all the rage”, SOMEWHERE!?!

Paul -

When I was in my favorite coffee shop in downtown Idaho Falls this morning, a couple guys at the next table were talking in hushed tones … about “Bulgarian San Juan Worming.”

Couldn’t really make out the accents, but I am pretty sure they were North Carolinian ??!! In the same conversation, there was mention of thin skins and salami skins, and some kind of elastic used in women’s bathing suits. It seemed the conversation, in those hushed tones, just kind of evolved to discussion of the Bulgarian San Juan Worming technique.

Small world, indeed - strangers in a coffee shop having the same conversation as a bunch of folks on FAOL. ( And no, there is no WIFI at that shop, whatever a WIFI is ? )

John

I don’t think it was him, but could it have been Smalliesam ?

Check out fly tying specialties he is in cal. and has a pretty good web store

JohnS;
You MUST be, single, if you don’t know what a “WIFI” is!?!
My WIFI’s name is Linda. So is Joe V.'s WIFI and I think, Jeff’s WIFI is named Leslie if not mistaken.

WARNING!
This thread contains sarcasm. It is known by the State of California to cause cancer.

No, no, it is related to HIFI which is High Fidelity audio. WIFI is Wide Fidelity and is when you place your speakers sideways so they are wider than higher.

NEVER, EVER, use the terms ‘WIFI’ and ‘WIDE’ in the same sentence!!!

You trying to get us killed or worse?

My WIFI’s name is Wendy…we do not say the ‘wide’ word, ever…

Buddy

My nefew was about 6 when he called my sister “Big Momma,” my poor brother-in-law nearly had to come live with me, since Sissy couldn’t believe that Ryan had come up with that on his own.
