another one! I'm doomed! (furling)

Well as if my Fly tying, Rod making, just weren’t enough I just ordered A DVD From Kathy, a Conair Hair Braider from Ebay, and it will be off to the lumber store in the next couple days LOL

My question here is would one of you more accomplished Furlers  be willing to send me a sample so I can see what mine “should” look like and also give me something to shoot for. I’ll be happy to Paypal a bit to cover your cost. I was considering just buying one but the commercially sold ones seem a bit expensive.(insert mumblings of I’m to cheap) Glow in the dark optional :stuck_out_tongue:

You are gonna love Kathy’s DVD. I finished my board with ManOWar varnish. It turned out nice. I started furling for the first time two weeks ago. It’s great! My first couple of attempts were poor, but now they are decent. I use a cordless drill, but the Conair Hair Braider sounds like a good way to go.

Give it just a little time…Jack Hise periodically flies over…[not sure if it’s in a jet or helicoptor]…and sprinkles furled leaders to the throngs:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:…I’m sure you will get yours…

RDL
PM your mailing address and I’ll send you a couple.
I’ll be doing a demonstration of Furled leaders down in Huntsville, AL Friday March 7th. Should be interesting
There was a lengthy thread on furled leaders in here a short time ago that had a wealth of good info in it.

Thanks Jack, PM on the way, I wish Huntsville was a bit closer, always liked it around there.

RDL
I’ll be doing a demonstration of furled leaders at the Michigan show (March 8&9). Is this any closer to you? You don’t have a location in your profile.

Brad

Jack
What occasion are you doing the demonstration in Huntsville and where. I am close by but don’t know if I can make it.

Knucks

Knucks;
I’ll get more info and pass it on. I’m sort of a last minute replacement for WarrenP and don’t know all the details yet. I do know that it is in the afternoon.

Thanks Jack I’ll be watching for the information.

Actually Kathy’s video is really all you need. I had a fairly decent leader made about 1 hour after the video got here. 3/4 hour to make the board.
(not hard) then about 10 minutes to figure out how to do it and viola a pretty good furled leader. Shorb loops took a bit longer to figure out . But even they are not that hard to do. Good Luck.

I also learned from Kathy’s video.

But I didn’t reallly “get it” until a drew a schematic of the routing of the thread for myself.

Here’s what I came up with.

Ed

THAT’S IT!!! THAT’S IT!!! Exactly!! Keep this handy, and you won’t have problems with the wraps! Thank you, Ed!!

Thanks all, yes I’m looking forward to the video.

Hey Ed,
That looks EXACTLY like my walking route, after fly fishing, back to where my wife will pick me up, when I take along the “larger” capacity flask. Amazing how well you were able to plot it.
Actually I too just bought Kathy’s video and based on viewing it a few times decided that other than the “i did it myself” factor, I’ll buy mine from the guys/gals here. Looks like fun but it’s the economy of time for me.

Mark
PS: Between buying from Kathy and Ron S’ generosity, I have several furled leaders BUT have never used one. I’m looking forward to finally “tying one on” to see what all the fuss is about.

Oh, Marco! Once you try one, you’ll never go back! Ever.

Marco -

Before you tie one on you have to be absolutely sure that either (1) you will have a life long supply from others, or (2) you can commit to making your own if your suppliers dry up.

This is NOT about experimenting.

Be forewarned.

John

After a lot of “EXPERIMENTING” I’ve pretty much settled down to 7’ leaders made from 6/0 Uni thread and Berkley Vanish “Transition” Fluorocarbon using Kathy’s 10/8/6 formula and 2.5 mm tippet rings!

I sent one of each to RDL yesterday.

Thanks Jack, I really do appreciate your sending these out, it will be great to get a close up look at them, and how the different material turns out.

KaboomI- same as on Furling board Kaboom?
If so, nice furling rig you have. You might want to explain and show some pics here of your brainchild and how it works
If it’s not you. Nevermind.

RDL;
You think your doomed!! I’ll be doing my demonstration at the 4th Annual WBC Outdoor Expo. WBC stands for “Whitesburg Baptist Church”!! I am in big trouble as I haven’t been in a Baptist church since highschool! Haven’t been in a church since my second wedding back in 19… what ever! In fact, thinking back, 50% of my days in court were about my weddings???
Now Paul I know you’re going to jump on this so, should I leave the pocket flask at home? Don’t forget this is in Huntsville, AL where it’s ok to take a 6 pack and a pick up to the reading of the will! Maybe the Buckeye Bandit will help me out here but I doubt it 'cause “If God had not created whiskey the Irish would rule the world”!!
Sorry for Hi Jacking this thread Rob. No I’m not, the NBOF are never sorry just a sorry lot!! :stuck_out_tongue:
