There is a mailorder company in the midwest USA that sells work clothes, bucket bosses and all manner of canvas brown and duckie. Its not the stuff actual working folks wear, they sell the kind of work clothes Orvis would sell if Orvis sold work clothes.
They have a nice looking vest called “The Working Man’s Vest”. To distingush if from every other vest out there they say its not one of those “yuppie type flyfishing vests”. I hope they were joking, though I was not amused. I never thought of myself as a yuppie because I fly fish, Im actually a red neck that fly fishes. Rednecks are as incompatable to yuppies as God is to sin or matter is to anti-matter…
Now if someone would make a fly fishing vest that would look good over a white shirt and tie that one could wear to dinner at the club, that indeed would be a yuppie type fly fishing vest… FB.
the fact that they used the word ‘yuppie’ says something. what would a yuppie vest have? definitely a cell phone pocket. and a perrier holder…but what else?
It would only need one arm hole…
It would have cost you an arm and a leg.
FarmerBob,
Read down a few posts in the SO, where Jed talks about “Lack of Simplicity”. That, to me at least, says yuppie vest. I know the company you’re talking about. Great stuff, good prices, lasts like steel, pretty basic. Practical.
Trouts don’t live in ugly places
Yuppie is so generations ago…
They need to get with the 21st century.
By the way, what is a “yuppie” vest? I bought a Fishpond vest for this season ~~ I hope that doesn’t classify me as a “yuppie”.
i’m a puppie–poor urban professional…
We puppies need to unite when it comes to fly fishing !!!
A yuppie vest would have:
- Pleats in the front and a seam that would not need ironing.
- It would have a little guy over the pocket with a wooden mallet in his hand.
- All pockets would have bone buttons to close it.
- Next to the cell phone pocket would be the I-Pod pocket with a small hole to allow you to inconspicuously pass out the wire to the ear bud.
- It would also have a lowjack in case it got stolen (or you fell over from the weight of it and drowned).
Fortunately you would have a choice of colors, teal, mauve or chartreuse to match the waders that they sell. Last years pastels are so not with it I can’t believe they ever sold them that way. They never matched my pallet as I am a fall and their colors are so summer.

Uh Jed?? You’re kind of worrying me.
Oakie…I second that… Jed…Funny post reply…U should be writing articles .
Jed;
That’s funny!! I’ll see if I can get one made for the Fish-In, only blue to match my eyes (sewn with red thread)!
Actually there were only a couple of million Yuppies, which the beer companies sadly found out after aiming their advertising at them.
I feel more like I do now than I did when I got here!
Cactus AKA “Lucky Dog (Pirate Name)”
Jack<I could do that depending on the shade of blue but you might consider crimson for the thread and it Must have antiqued silver or gold buttons>They must be antiqued so as not be as shiny now will you need 5 or 6 pockets for access inside or will you be happy with 3 also your going to have it lined right. Will that be in satin or silk.We musnt forget the little hand embrodered flies on the pocket flaps (different fly for each of the 93 exterior pockets)
now will that be made in a twill or gaberdine

Feel free to call me a yuppie. Remember what the “Y” stands for? If you can call me a yuppie with a straight face, I’ll let you get away with it. If you start to giggle when you say it, I’ll laugh along with you.

I’ve got a nice Filson guide vest, slate gray, with pleated pockets (dedicated ones for cellphone and digital camera). On it I’ve got Dr. Slick gold handled forceps, Henkel scissors and a hand made cedar landing net. This year’s Ray Ban’s and a Australian wide-brim hat on my head. A Tag Heuer diving watch with air time ring (for counting my catch… sadly it only goes to 59) is on my wrist.
We have a winner!
The funny thing about the vest mentioned as the “working man’s vest” and not a yuppie’s vest is that it costs $60.00 .
