your best advice period

I would have to recommend using the palomar knot. its very easy to tie and it is EXTREMELY strong.

Do not cast where ther is no room. Just today, I had an electronic bit alarm set up for carp, and I casted and accidentally snagged that line, the beep went off, the rod fell into the water, and I thought i had a fish on both rods…

Learn to cast, take a lesson! If you can cast well the fishing part will come easy and be more productive and enjoyable, not to mention a lot less frustrating.

Anthony,

What exactly is an electronic bit(e) alarm? With all due respect, am I to understand that your flyfishing consists of electronic devices?

Anyhow - best advice.
A lot is two words not one.
Don’t chew with your mouth full.
Don’t look into your handkerchief after blowing your nose as if rubies were going to come out.
Finally - always close the door behind you (horses, kids, etc.)

Regards,
paff

No, Its used with spinning rod carp setup up:

It consistes of two poles that your stick into the ground. The rod rests on both of these. One of the poles(the back one) has just a groove that the rod fits into. THe scond pole has the bite alarm on it. The line goes through a small groove in the bit alarm and when the line is pulled, it beeps. Pick up the rod, and the carp is on.

It may sound weird but it is standard tackle in Europe(where the carp is like bass or trout in America) and it is great when you want to fly fish and cant watch the line on your spinning rod.

Sorry I keep mis-spelling it. Its “bite” alarm

“Don’t take life too seriously, none of us are getting out alive anyway”. I take that to mean, “Go fishing as often as possible”. Plus (bonus advice)When in doubt, throw them a wooly bugger!..FW, and a clouser in the salt…

Thanks Jim H. Guess I should have asked first but your quote just so sums up my views in so many matters, on so many levels.

thnx…gm

Welcome to a new member. I don’t think this is a troll so I’ll bite. Three pieces of advice on wading:

  1. Fish first and wade later.

  2. Don’t wade where you should be fishing.

  3. Don’t ever wade deeper than your upper lip. 8T

You had better learn to be a happy camper. You only get one try at this campground and it’s a real short camping season.

rawfish,
Congratulations! You are doing the right things already.

well since afew people have mentioned it:
what is a troll?
I dont have a lot of experience yet so most of my participation will be in the form of questions.
Again, all this advice is amazing…
Thank you everyone

A troll is someone who comes into a web site just to cause trouble. You can find them in golf sites, football and basketball sites, any type site. They don’t last long here. This little community is well guarded.

why then would people think I am a troll if I asked for people’s advice

There was a guy hanging around the last couple of days that fits the description. They aren’t talking about you.

My advice would be…“If it ain’t broken, don’t fix it”. Words to live by.

Hey Rawfish,

There was a troll in this thread as well
as several others. They were removed. Warm
regards, Jim

If your from Michigan a troll is someone who lives south of the Mackinaw bridge…they are usually nice trolls however. Rawfish, your packin a lot of good info into your post. Nice job, Jonezee

The longer a fly is in the water or on the water, you’ll get more fish…casting is fun but i’ve never seen a fish jump out of the water to get a fly…oh yeah…get out often and have fun…it’s should be relaxation not work…enjoy where you are, what your doing and the friends you’re doing it with

The best time to go fishing is when it’s raining and when it’s not

Oh, I forgot my fly tying advice; “Never crowd the eye of the hook”, nothing more frustrating than having tied a beautiful fly that you can’t thread onto the tippet!!! (especially when its the only one you have that you think might possibly work, as the trout are rising -along with your blood pressure) Also; this little gem from my Uncle Nick, “Never wear a dead man’s boots…”
