yak hair

Does anyone other than me use yak hair as a substitute for polar bear, and what else do you use it for? John

I use yak hair for saltwater Clousers. Works well, has great translucency, and is durable fished around oyster bars and toothy fish. Sparse is better.

Hey Lee I read it as peanut butter the first time and had to look again. Or maybe J.C. is adding protien attractant to his flies .

I can not find real Polar Bear in my area that is why I use yak hair. Thanks for the replys, John

Someone just had a post with a link and they had real polar bear. It was expensive like $13 for a piece. Pricey, Im not sure what the stuff goes for.

Thanks,

i use em too make 8-12 inch bulltrout streamers. i love yak!!

Streamers in place of buck tail. Started to use it last year for Salt water Coho flies.
I was looking at some Yak hair again last night at the bench after reading this at work that day and made a rainbow trout looking fly about 6 inch long from Olive and White Yak hair and lt Pink Lama hair and a just a couple strands of some Purple and Pink Flash. First time I really used the Lama hair. I got it from the swap box last year. The Lama hairs some neat stuff really. I already knew I like to work with the Yak hair.
