wulff triangle taper line

anyone use this line? have heard some rave about it and others that disparaged its durability, floatability and advised it got dirty quickly. anyone have any thoghts to add to this? thinking of getting it in a 4 wt. also looking at the new airflo sixth sense.

I had the three but it went to my brother with the Scott Eclipse. He is still using it and it is going on 5 yrs. The old man has some too that he is still using. I want to try the Sylk DT on my full flexes, but I might buy some TT also.

Never tried a TT I didn’t like, and I started using them back in the good old days when they were rated 3/4, 4/5, etc.

I have 3, 4, and 5 weight TT’s that are at least several seasons old and still going strong. Come to think of it, I even have an old orange 4/5 that I could still fish with tomorrow.

I fish the Wulff TT exclusively on all of my trout rods (cane). All lines have their strengths and weaknesses but what I really like is the line taper design. No level belly section, just a long front taper blending into a rear taper, then running section. This makes for a really nice turnover, and great roll casts. It’s also extremely supple which I really like for a trout line. I use the ivory and it does get pretty dirty, but that might just be because it’s ivory and I never clean it!

I will second what Oyster said. It casts very well…especially on slower rods. I use one on my bamboo and love it.

Yes, you have to clean it. But you should do that anyway.

I will also give it a thumbs up for use on slower rods. I had it on my TFO TiCr…hated it. Now have it on my Sage SLT 5wt which is slower rod and it casts very nicely. Liked it so much I went a bought one for for my 3wt SLT.

I have a bunch of the TT lines, both old and new, and find they work wonderfully on bamboo and medium action rods. I’ve also used them on faster rods, and they work well there, too. The taper’s design acts like a shooting head, so I get more distance than with other lines. The narrower front taper does tend to sink, but also roll casts very well.

Of course, if I had quality bamboo rods like Bill makes, any line would do.

I pretty much use TT lines on all my fly rods, from 3 to 5 wt., including a couple cane rods.

The line works well for me on graphite and bamboo.

Wulff has improved the TT line this year by adding a new type of coating that makes it slicker and (according to the ad) stronger and more resistant to abrasion.

Of course, the price went up something like ten bucks too.

I just recently got the TT line and I LOVE it. Like already mentioned the line casts wonderfully! If you get it you won’t have any regrets. I know I didn’t.

Hello dpenrod, I’ve used a triangle taper line since 1974 and have enjoyed it since the first cast. I think you get a quieter delivery than with other WF lines. I don’t think they get dirter than any other line. And this year they have a new coating called J3 which is slicker and floats better. I am replacing my 8,5, and 4 lines which I’ve had since 1980. They have served my well, but 25 years are enough. I hope I’ve helped you. Most fly shops will let you try one and see for yourself. Tight Lines, Chris

I used a 5wt Wulff TT last season on a St. Croix Imperial rod. They seem to be a good match.
