working on packing list for the MI Fish In

Would it be advisable to bring my float tube or would it just be a waste of space?
4,6,and 8 wt rods, reels, line. (never know what I might fish for on the local waters )
100,000,000 million flies and tying kit
waterproof camera
GPS loaded with geocache corddnences
Palm loaded with hints for geocaches
food and drink to get me started.
Are there grills available for use at Gates Lodge? or Should I bring mine?
1 weeks worth of cloths
waders and boots ( just picked up new at Cabela’s on sale. (Nothing fancy $139.00 waders and free boots sale going on now)
Am I missing anything?

wax for ferrules, first aid kit, something to eat the grilled food on, deck of cards and a good book in case weather kills the fishing.

Have Fun wish I could go.

Eric

Float tube will fit in well during the aluminum hatch!
There’s a great eatery at the Lodge; Grayling is just down the road with all kinds of quick food places, and a grocery store. Ohhh, and Spikes!!!

Wading stick. Sun block. FAOL hat. Bug repellant. Snacks. White cheddar cheeze-its:roll:. <Ah come on! He’s making a list! Maybe he won’t notice!?!>

Flashlights for night fishing if the hex hatch is still going? One small one (I like a head lamp) to tie on new flies and untangle leaders. One bigger one to find your way back to the car.

No grilles since i was there last—the restaurant is excellent—float tube would be good below mio in the bigger water or some of the lakes. (wakely would be nice)

i was up there a few weeks ago and the mosquitos nearly carried me off

fishing will most likely be early and late because of water temp and the aluminum hatch

Thanks for the suggestions and please people keep them coming.

Having just got back, I would say you need the following:

rod
bug dope
reel
bug dope
waders
bug dope
wading boots
bug dope
headlamp
bug dope
net
bug dope
flies
bug dope

God I hope I don’t forget the bug dope

just pack everything except the

Deoderant
Toothbrush
Toothpaste

We’d all apprecate that :>)

I don’t know if you’re planning on bringing anything specific for the meet & greet on Monday. If you want you can just pick up some munchies at the store in town.

One of the other great places to eat in town is the Bear’s Den, it’s a family style pizza parlor whose CALZONES are to die for! I can hardly wait to get there, I definitely know where we’ll be eating on Saturday night.

If you like Mexican food there is a La Seniorita up in Gaylord-we might want to get a group together and go up for dinner one night.

I’m not sure what type of cell phone you have, but many have problems with coming in up there, especially Nextel. That’s why we have Tracphones, they actually come in great.

Something you might want to be aware of at Gates—They have two golden retreivers, a male and a female. The female is a thief! She is known to wander off with people’s boots, and other items, especially food! She’s really freindly, she just loves to have things to play with. (for the life of me I’m having an alzheimer’s moment and can’t remember her name) She always gives Bill and Brad fits, trying to take off with their cooking items. The male is very mellow and basically just lays around.

I don’t know if you’re into bird watching, if so you might want to bring your binoculars as well. They have several bird feeders at Gates, and I enjoy wathcing the antics while sitting at the registration booth. We keep ours and our bird guides in the truck at all times.

There’s actually several fly shops up in that area, but to be honest, Gates’ is the best.

Is it the 30th yet I am ready to go well I still need to pack LOL

Ah, yes … that’d be Ruby!

Tim,
Take a Deep Breath and slowly let it out… Then just bring everything.
Is your Lady coming with You?

Tim;
The 8 wt. may be a bit overkill. I’m brining a 2 wt., 3 wt. & 5 wt.
I am planning on bringing my pontoon and spending a day on Wakley Lake so bring the float tube.
I’m bringing two good friends, Jack Danial’s and Geroge Dickle so you just be sure and have plenty of ice ready Saturday evening when I get there. Jack and George like it cool!!
Tim! One more time!! The 30th of June is Monday!!! Saturday is the 28th!
Glen’s market in Grayling has a nice Deli section. I’ll be bringing a large cooler and during the Sunday canoe hatch Ed and I will drag you into town to stock up on snacks, beer, lunch stuff, beer, coffee (Ed’s bringing the coffee pot), beer, ice, beer, sodas and bug dope! I don’t even drink beer!!?? But who knows who may stop for a visit and we must be ready!

Jack, I give a Rats butt what the date is on Saturday I will be there LOL

Bill no my lovely bride will not be attending, her and my son are spending there vacation in Mexico this week.

Tim,

Nice trade! I send the wife to Florida in the winter for a week to offset my Michigan fishing trip. Then we try to do a vacation together like the cruise we took in January. What goes around comes around.

Joe

ya gotta pay if ya wanna play LOL

Karen and I will head to Cozumel Mexico in February for our vacation of drinking eating and SCUBA diving.

I’m gonna drive Colleen through upscale neighborhoods on “trash pick-up day”!!..The ULTIMATE bargain hunter’s shopping trip.
Seriously, we are heading to the North Carolina Outerbanks for 8 days. Leaving August 1st.

Tim…Looking forward to meeting you 6/28.
Joe…What can I say? I think we’ve already met! :stuck_out_tongue:
Mikey

You definitely want to bring your float tube. (for lake stuff while the canoes take over the river). You will probably not need your 8 wt, unless you have some Pike fishing in mind or you plan on throwing some super huge flies. The 4 wt is probably the rod of choice and the six would be good for mousing or streamers or big hex flies at night.

I like geocaching too. LOL but I don’t have the US Topos for my GPS. Just the Canadian ones. D’uh! I keep meaning to do something about that but I end up spending my bucks on more fly fishing gear. How stupid is that? I also lost my lap top with the palm pilot programs on it. I’ll have to see if I can find some updated versions for Vista. It didn’t have anything the last time I looked. What a nightmare that program has been.

You might want to pick up a couple of things at Gates shop…one would be the AuSable River (Holy Waters) map book put by the Challenge Chapter of TU. The other might be the book by Rusty Gates which I find a good companion book as it talks about what’s happening on the river through out the year and it gives hints into what to have along in the fly box that week. There is another hatch book I’m after and a hatch calender that I’ll probably grab as well.

I’m pretty sure there were grills at the Lodge but if not, there is a fire pit with grill and usually someone has a fire going in it or you can start one. It’s big enough to share. If you want to know about the grills for sure, just fire off an email to them. They are good about answering.
