Woolly bugger saddles/ where to buy?

I’m looking to buy some soft, grizzly rooster saddles to tie some large woolly buggers in sizes such as 4, 6, and 8. Anybody have any ideas where I can find them?

Check with Denny, I have heard nothing but good things about his products. http://www.conranch.com/

Good Luck, the hairdressing market has skyrocketed the price on these:

Hen hackle should do just fine, especially if you get a “magnum” hen as Metz calls them… they have rounded ends and are wide and webby.

J Stockard, Bears Den, Dakota Outfitters, etc.

Haven’t purchased from them but they have some cool stuff; worth a look.

Strung grizzly or grizzly Schlappen is what you want. The Whiting Bugger Saddles are better for somewhat smaller flies and are more expensive. The cheap strung Chinese stuff is not part of the hair hackle craze and anyway that trend’s in full collapse… nobody is getting $500 for a grizzly saddle like they were over the summer. Now it’s down to $60-180 for the most part. Prices will never be “normal” for dry fly saddles again, but something that retailed for $60 two years ago should retail for $85 within a few months. In fact, we just put the few saddles we still have back on the shelf.

If Denny can’t help you, look at Bass Pro. They have some strung hackle that is very suitable.

lastchance,
I’ve got at least half of a grizzly saddle that should work for the sizes you are needing. I haven’t used it in a while and don’t anticipate using it. It’s yours if you want it. Send me your addy and I’ll get it to you.

Take care,
Greg

And another proof from the most generous tyer on the forum…

Good on you, Greg!

That is extremely generous of you, but I feel funny taking something without giving you something in return. Anything you need? Thanks for being so kind,
Bruce

Bruce,
You can pay it forward some day in the future to someone new to flyfishing.

Send me your address at a convenient time and I’ll get it in the mail.

Take care,
Greg
