Wool Roving Streamers

While I tie these on both size 2 worm hooks and size 2 AHREX Predator hooks, I prefer the AHREX hooks because they give me much more area to tie in the body material without crowding the eye. I wrap lead wire on the slanted portion of the predator hook to give it a nice, slow sink rate. I add Crystal Chennille material for the body. This gives the fly a bulkier look without adding the weight. Then, I tie in wool roving material for the belly and body. The trick to using wool roving is to take a pinch and pull it from the hank. Don’t cut it. This gives it a nice natural tapered shape. The wool roving comes in 20+ colors and blends very easily to get the colors I want. You can get the wool roving at Michale’s or Hobby Lobby. It’s not expensive and you get a lot of material in each hank.

That’s a good looking baitfish pattern.

I love those hooks, they’re a great addition to the fly tying hook market. I spent years trying to tie on regular offset EWG hooks, and there’s just such limited shank space that the nose of the flies often ended up too bulky. The Gunnar Brammer hooks helped a lot.
