Wisconsin Driftless 2017

18 to hand today.

lost bigger one at the net and had monster school me.

Trip Report Three Hours On Water
The temps hit 38 by noon here. I was on the water by 1pm.

Stream temp 38 at 2pm

Caught this micro on the first cast.

All trout were in slow water.

19 to hand. Many short hits.

Friday Trip Report
Wanted to get out while streams were still in good shape.

Hard to find a fishing partner on a weekday.

Was fishing close to the road today because I was flying solo. The wife gets nervous when I go alone and wants me close to the vehicle.

The sun got high quickly and the bigger trout got lock jaw. I landed 22 browns with nothing over 14 inches.

I hit another stream that was really close and not far from the road and caught another 7 dinks.

Trout were in fast water today for the first time of the year.

I know the weather is good this weekend but I have been fishing during the week these days with my wife’s car to avoid claim jumpers.

Brian Wisiniewsk with his fat rainbow

Kris Koepke caught this sweet brown.

Fished from 2pm to 6:30pm. Had to sit often. No endurance.

Second cast.

Had one ferocious hit that nearly tore the rod out of hand.

Was surprised i had no hook up with such a freight train.

27 to hand.

Looks like you had a lot of fun.

Rick

Andrew Nezworski had a good day…well over 50 fish to hand…good mix of brookies and browns…1 tiger…no monsters biggest 15-16

Trip Report 3/28/17 Richland County

Robins egg blue skies. I fought with going or not and the warm weather coaxed me out of the house.

Was 58 degrees and water was 46 degrees and crystal clear.

Lots of swipes but not hits. I knew with the bright sun the fish would be in cover or broken water.

24 browns to hand. Most micros. These were the three biggest. 2:45 to 5:30 fishing

Did add a written comment in log book

Krzysztof and Michael Drozd fished in Juneau County yesterday.

His personal best

Dan Braun Wants A Rematch

Dan drove down to be my net man after the big trout I discovered a couple days ago. He was pleasantly surprised when I told him I would let him fish for it first. He tied on a new 3X leader and tied on a size 8 green turd.

First cast he caught this little one.

He checked the leader and fired right back into the lair of the gator. He felt resistance on his line and set the hook. His line came back empty and it appeared as if his fly was clearly bitten off.

We talked about it for a short time while he was retying. He felt fish for a brief moment and then the line went limp. We both decided the big trout had alligatored the fly.

Dan fired back in there and caught another trout.

Dan cast in there again this time it cut a big swirl as it attack the fly and the line came back empty.

He had been alligatored twice in less than 5 casts. The trout did not come back.

We went to another stretch and fished for a couple hours.

17 to hand for Dan and 12 for me.

The legend of the giant brown grows.

I asked four people to go with me. It was a last minute thing so everyone had plans. I did talk my good friend Kevin Rott into following me to my ending spot where I parked and he taxied to my starting point.

It was the warmest day of the year so far 73. It was mostly cloudy. The water temp was 60. I expected a good outing and wasn’t disappointed.

Trip Report Vernon County

Hit the water with Andy Nezworski at 9am. Was cloudy when we started and then got sunny in a hurry. We fished head waters due to recent rain. By 10:30 there were scads of hatches coming off. Blue Wing Olives/Gnats/Caddis were all over the place and little trout were working the surface. Andy tried dries with no luck.

Spooked a lot of fish in the gin clear water.

Our luck changed just before we stopped.

Andy out fished me. My knees were angry so I stopped. I deposited Andy downstream and am expecting a report later tonight.

Went to visit my mother today and caught a few along the way at two locations that I did a hit and run at each. All browns…around 20 to hand.

Two photo worthy…they have some sweet coloring

4 Net Morning

Went out for 2 hours this morning. It looked like rain in the forecast and I looked at my favorite water and it was a little dirty. Thought I better get out there before it was too dirty to fish.

Second cast

Put my LDH Net to good use.

5 minutes later.

Used my LDH Net again

Used my LDH Net again

was happy to use my net again.

At full arm stretch I could not get entire trout in photo.

Not a great numbers day but made it up with size.

Thought it was time to go home.

Gave a brother team a hot tip and it lead to a 60 plus fish afternoon

Hit the water at 8am this morning. The clouds in the forecast never materialized.

Most trout were under 12 inches today. Three topped 15 inches and one wayward brookie was caught. 36 to hand in 3.5 hours. Not bad for a robin’s egg blue moring.

Water clarity almost crystal clear. Water temp was 64.

On the second to last hole of the morning I scored my largest chub ever.

I guess it is sorta a trifecta.

Wacky Conditions

I thought with the impending eclipse it might turn on the trout.

I wandered to Crawford County to an easy walking stretch.

I introduced myself to the new land owners.

Fished for 2 hours and landed 13 browns and 3 brookies. “No Gill Lice”

Would have done better if the new land owner’s dog Princess would not have swam in every hole before I fished it. She liked me and the smell of my Buggins bug spray. Every time I sat she sat right along side of me. The owners said she was only a puppy and is a papered Great Pyrenees and will get much bigger. I hope she remembers me.

Did have a solid fish on right at shore and worried about the dog trying to bite the fish. I let the fish long line release so there would be no dog hook ups.

Trip Report “Wisconsin Special”

I have been riding the pines for a while. The recliner seems to be growing to my behind. Yes my back is hurting but I decided to quit whining and get out there for an hour tonight.

Had three decent ones shake off before I could land them. I landed seven browns.

The below female brown was my last to hand. I smiled as I knelt to net her. I leaned forward and put a hand down. I could not have done it better if I had planned it. I thought about taking a photo of my hand placement.

I placed my support hand down right in the middle of a fresh cow pie. I actually laughed audibly as I looked at my hand. If someone would have been with me they would have thought I lost my mind. I was momentarily distracted. I netted the trout. I rinsed off my hand and took one photo.

I gimped back to my vehicle with a huge smile. Ain’t life grand?
