Wife Gave Me "OK" to get another net

Wife gave me the OK to get another LDH Net

She asked me what I needed 2 for. I asked her what if one broke? I needed a back up. It didn’t take much and I won her over.

Which should I get?

It will be a steelhead net for sure.

Only question is which kinda wood?

I am leaning towards a curly walnut like the one above that use to have.

I only have one net now.

Either sold or gave away nets to people that loved them.

My birdseye maple net is my current and favorite and has some serious MOJO in it

Great looking nets on the website.

I really don’t know but I envy you of your “problem”

I have for a long time wanted to buy one of those nets, I have a question that you shuld be able to answer.
Can you use the steelhead net as a wading net or is it too long?

Thorarinn.

Spinner1,

I HIGHLY and STRONGLY recommend the lightweight rubber nets for fly fishing. All my guides use rubber nets and I own several of them myself. The older soft nylon type was good for Catch & Release except the flies get hung up in the net fairly often AND the net retains the smell of the fish. The newer rubber nets have no problem with flies hanging up in them, it is really easy to unhook a fly from the rubber AND they retain no fish odor at all. They are also very fish friendly, the best net for C&R type fishing.

Fisknat is a local company up where I live and I own three of his nets. He does great work on the wood and you will be very pleased. I have a smaller hand net for stream fishing and a boat net for use on my WaterMaster raft and pontoon boat.

Larry —sagefisher—

will see if they have the net I want…

thanks for a second place to look in to.

is 32 inches overall length.

I use a rose creek to secure the hoop part between my shoulders.

I am a big guy 6’03" 260 and my net fits perfectly between my shoulders.

I have had a longer net…a brodin and shortened the handle because it thumped the back

of my legs and drove me crazy. I like the LDH Nets because they are very deep and handy

for keeping the fish in water while I am getting a camera ready. I like the non-tapered

nets. I have an email out to the net company Larry suggested with my specs.

Will see what happens.

Not as purdy as yours but on my short list: http://www.brodin.com/Coho.html

Are these heavy nets?

Typically the rubber nets are considerably heavier and won’t stay on my rose creek net release.

Are these nets deep and are they tapered?

Spinner since you asked for suggestions on wood let me give you a suggestion if I may. Box Elder Burl…I had a net made by “Dr.Sam” of http://www.flyfishingnets.net/ using Box elder burl and it’s just an amazing looking wood.

Rubber bags as sagefisher mentioned are nice, and he’s right about flies not getting hung up in the bag of a rubber net. But if your a wading angler then you should take into consideration the weight factor of a rubber bag on a Steelhead size net as well. Steelie nets have a bigger opening so a rubber bag would add considerable weight over a mess C&R bag. If your fishing from a boat as guides do then thats not a problem, but for a wading angler having a large steelie net with a rubber bag hanging off the back of your neck for 6-8hrs is something to take into consideration.

Here’s a pic of my net with the Box elder burl I mentioned.

Steve

Lots of choices on landing nets. I just got a Wachter and it is a work of art. I opted for the molded rubber net to not get the fly caught.

JR

lots of them are really sweet.

the light weight rubber looks wimpy
Sage how does it hold up?

The heavy rubber ones are just too cumbersome and heavy to carry on my back.

The old netting is usually good by me. I am going with tried and true.

ordered my LDH Net in curly walnut in the steel head version.

The one on the right
