Does any one know who makes the hooks for Wholesale Sports …aka Sportsman’s Warehouse…or what number system they use?
Well they use the same number system as the TMC hooks and I believe they are made in Japan as well. I’ve picked up a couple in the smaller size range and used them for WD-40’s and caught a few fish on them and it didn’t straiten out. They’re cheaper than the TMC’s but can’t go wrong with the TMC’s.

Not to hijack, but as an aside…
Last time I was there my Sportsman’s doesn’t sell it’s own brand of hooks. They were closing out a lot of hooks, Daiichis and Mustads.
I haven’t been there in a month or so, so maybe this is new?

Our local Wholesale Sports has a fly fisher and tier in charge of the fishing department. Our fly tying section keeps getting bigger and better. Far superior to the Cabela’s across the freeway. Not sure who makes their hooks, but I’ll try to find out.

I miss our Sportsman’s Warehouse! They closed down a year ago. That was my favorite place to go, because they were the only place around that carried Mustad hooks and a variety of stuff that wasn’t just the “elite brand”… Now I either order online, pay a bit more at the local fly shop, or wait until I’m at Cabela’s in Kansas City.
I talked to the Manager and friend of the fishing department (Bob) here in Bend, and they are pretty much the same as the TMC’s (Tiemco). I bought a few more of the “Wholesale Sports” hooks to replace a diminishing supply of other hooks one being a TMC 3761 in a # 16. I compared them side to side and could not tell the difference. If you compare the packages they both say Made in Japan, probably the same manufacturer. But size and number are the same the only difference is the PRICE!!!

Oh ya, for alot of the NW Wholesale Sports stores their purchasing manager is a fly guy and really loaded up on alot of the Nature’s Spirit stuff which is a great company out of Montana that used to have roots here in Bend, OR.
