I recently bought the SA streamer slit foam box but at only 4x6" roughly it does not hold the flies i want to put in it.It says it will hold 72 flies but with me putting size 10 poppers with rubber legs 15 flies on one side carefully placed is all i can get on one side.The other side has #10 clousers and bead chain eye dragon nymphs which hold a little more.I have a camo waist pack i like to strap on that will hold up to a size 12" plano type box that i am thinking of using.I can place similiar flies in the compartments with out damage.What does everyone else use?
I carry a Cabelas box with “nubby tack” on both sides, small size, and a Cliff’s “Day’s Worth”. Those two wouldn’t hold a TON of poppers, but I generally fish wets and small streamers and it’s more than enough for me. Check out the line of boxes by Cliff’s… They are VERY nice!

I have a foam box about he size of yours but not SA. One side is flat foam the other ripple. I carry a variety of poppers, nymphs, small buggers and clousers and it seems to carry what I need for chasing bluegills. I found that the secret is not carrying too many of one pattern. I normally carry no more than three. One to fish with, one as a spare and one to give away.

This one is hard to care around in a small pack or vest but I have one more for storage than anything and really love it for bass flies, I am going to get 2 more so I can thin down the one and have streamers poppers and some other stuff I don’t know what to call.

My local fly shop carries 'em, but so does Feather Craft. They’re the ones I’ve noticed that have a selection, not just two or three. The Days Worth, Crab Shack, or Bugger Barn would all have their place for bluegill/crappie/bass fishing.
I liked the bugger barn but it has no separation between the two side so the rubber legs would make contact with the other side,not to say it would hurt anything.The SA box above my streamer box is only 6" long compared to the next one up at 7 3/4" for 32.00,i feel it would only hold one more row of poppers than the one i have.I have a old army belt pack that will hold a 4x8 box and has a small pocket up front that i carry leaders in.
Altoids box, glue in foam, slit foam. Voila! Sturdy floating box that comes with free candy.
greenlantern: you stole my thunder; you must have noticed also that we only use 2 to 4 flies on a days outing yet, most all fly anglers have 37 fly boxes loaded to the hilt.
It’s really great having that little box with a few productive flies, a pair of nippers and foreceps and small spool of tippet so we can concentrate on fishing instead of being a walking fly shop.

I just ordered a 4x8 nubby tack box from cabelas,will see if it holds close to 20 poppers,24 #10 clousers and some dragon nymphs,if so you will see the slit foam SA box up for sale here!

If you like the Streamer box from SA, but it just wasn’t big enough, try the Big Fly 116 in the same series. I keep my streamers in the 72 and my poppers in the 116. Works just fine for me.
I like the SA fly boxes. I have one with is a pretty general use fly box, and there streamer. In adittion to the SA boxes, I like altoids tin boxes when I finnish one out.
I carry in my fanny pack three 3" x 6" White River foam boxes, and an assortment of small fly boxes, electrical tape and Altoids type containers(these are filled with fly swap flies).

I picked up three of the Scientific Anglers System X nymph boxes on sale at Sierra Trading Post for $7.00 each and so far they seem like a very nice fly box. Plenty of room to carry everything I need for an outing in one box. They’re very well made, waterproof and have see through lids so it’s easy to find the right fly without having to open the box. They even have an area designed to store strike indicators or splitshots if you use them. I’ve hesitated to post this since they no longer have these for sale, but I thought I’d share my experience with the fly box.
