What is Your favorite Fly Tying Tool -

I mean the one you would never tie without not counting your vise?

The bobbin.

Tim

LOL!!

I would say my Dr Slick smooth jawed barb crimpers. They are spring loaded & do a great job.
Mike

second the bobbin, lol.

seriously though, my Dr. Slick arrow point scissors, and barb crimper pliers.

I’m glad you said “tool” or my answer would be …hook

Let’s see…thinking this through

...something to wind with...my fingers can do that...especially with a spool in my palm...actually do that sometimes

...something to cut with....scissors ...razor blade...etc..

...knot tyer....that would be fingers again...

It would have to be scissors…can’t gnaw with my teeth…

definately the scissors, without question

My fingers, definitely my favourite, I am very attached to them.

Back in Grump mode for a minute.
A bobbin is the round article, wood, plastic or metal, which the thread is wrapped around, also sometimes called a spool.
When will these colonials learn.

I learned to tie without a bobbin so I can do without one. Pretty hard to tie a good fly without scissors. A pair that will fit in my hand with kinda long smooth point.

Most of the flies I tie are for saltwater. The hooks I use need to be sharpened or you won’t be catching any fish.
Before I smartened up I used a file. It took a good chunk of time to sharpen each hook, and it wasn’t easy to get a good edge.
Then I discovered the Dremel Tool
Zip, zip, zip and it’s done.

I’m with Donald—my fingers. I’ve tied without a vise or bobbin. Scissors—BILL

I concur.

Ed

When you teach the name for what we call a bobbin.

Ed

that’s a bobbin holder ed.

Razor blade, to recycle my mistakes

in reality the bobbin(holder)

My fingers, without them all other tools are totally useless.

My eyes

My favorite accessories are a pair of Nor-bobbins with extra spools loaded up with most-used threads, and my Ekich bobbin with a short SS tube. After a short learning period with the automatics, my collection of conventional bobbins is now relegated to nothing but material handling chores (tinsel, wire, floss).

Best,
Will

The new ‘Daylight’ lamp my wife got for me. It’s been a great help to my aging eyesight.

After years of pooh poohing the high cost of Ott lamps and similar products I have changed my opinion 180 degrees. Good lighting has made my tying much more pleasurable. Can’t imagine going back to the old swing arm lamp.

love my daylight lamp as well.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I like my tying den lit up like a nuclear reactor.

now days… my glasses
