I know that Christmas is more than gifts and such but we had a great Xmas … my son is home for the holidays from Korea had the whole family was here .I even recieved some great gifts one of wich was unexpected … I’m a snoop… lol Wife found a card catolog cabinet from my grade school and thought I would like to have it for storage of fly tying stuff… a ton of drawers made of maple wood … just too cool now I have to make room for it in my tying room .So what did everybody get for X-mas ?
The more time I spend around people the more I like my dog.
VEE and I fared pretty well in our gift giving and receiving. I got the cam jaws for my Renzetti Traveler that I’ve been wanting. Man, what a difference they make!
I got VEE a FishPond Tying Travel Bag, the Coyote model. That sure is sweet! Wouldn’t mind one of those myself (VEE, that’s as much of a hint as I can give). I’m pretty impressed with the quality of their gear that I’ve seen so far.
A couple of weeks ago I also got a complete Blue Eared Pheasant skin for tying the spey flies I enjoy fishing so much, along with a neck and a saddle of some of Denny Conrad’s fine hackle. My favorite is the Dree, the cross between a dun and cree. Looks like Cree but has a dark dun chevron instead of black.
The guys at our local fly shop gave VEE some very small hooks (18 to 22) and she’s been tying up a storm since.

I got an inexspensive Cabela’a 8-wt 9’ outfit and the book “The Fly Fisherman’s Guide to the Meaning of Life” by Peter Kaminsky. Nice rod for the price and the book, which I read in one day is priceless. It is one I will reread.
My wife got me the first ever flyfishing related item in 13 yrs of marriage. I too got the FishPond Tying Travel Bag, the Coyote model a total surprise. Hadn’t even made mention of wanting a travel tying bag. But I’ve been tying at a lot of shows lately, gonna love not having to carry all my things in a plastic tub. And I’ve been bringing tying materials on my fishing trips.
A case of the flu had me laid up all weekend I finished up an 8’4" 3wt.Matrix for my 8yr.old son at about 1:00 Sunday morning and went to bed and alternated between freezing, frying and feeling like dying.
But today I feel fine and about an hour ago
Family Tyes called and told me I had won a new Sage Xi2 1090-4 in the daily drawing
So not just one new rod in the house this week.I just about fell off the couch when I got the call.
Plus I got a new gerber paraframe knife and a huge plano 777 box that will hold all my gear.
Got a Digital camera that takes great pictures . It has a morphing feature so I can doctor the pictures and make a 10" fish look like a 12 pounder . Life is good .
Got a new puppy , a 4 month old brat in a dog suit . ( He eats doormats and shoes )
I didn’t get the bigger fish tank I asked for , Santa patiently explained that I have too many all ready .
A great big ole box from Hook and Hackle! Too full of neat goodies to list them all. A partial list- 4 more bobbins, thread, thread, thread, chenille, tinsel, corks, beads, etc…pretty much everything but the feathers and we grow our own here on the farm. Plus a $50.00 Orvis card! woo-hoo! and the college kids came to visit…and a happy wife and happy little ones! All around a great Christmas! Hope you all did too.
I got the Temple Forks 9’ 10wt that I have been drooling over. Can’t wait to get to some big water to try that baby out, unfortunately only stream fishing or drilling holes in the ice around here right now. If the warming trend holds I suppose I could play with it on steelhead in Erie. Also, got a few new gadgets to make life easier, a ketchum release tool, a new knife and a headlap. And, I still got a birthday coming on Friday! What a great Christmas!
I did alright this year, recieved a Peak Vise (very nice vice) and reel made by Fly Logic which beats the hell out of my ovis reel, surprising there not better known, can wait to break it in this spring.
