The surgeon has decided to go with cortizone and anti inflamatory steroid injections. I have some fluid in the knee from what the surgeon says could be iliotibial disorder. This is a type of sports inury that he thinks may be from climbing on and off of my fork lift all day. He said that the soft tissues appear to have minimal to no damage and my arthritis looks ok. We decided on a course of action. First the shots. If that fails, shots and therapy. Should that not work then surgery. I really like this doctor. The first thing he said to me today was “lets take care of that bum knee” lol.
I felt so much better I decided to cap the day off with a little fishing. Caught two bass, one big gill and several crappies. Tossed all back but the largest crappie. I gave that to an older gent that had a basket full of gills for his table. Being on the water is, indeed, good for body and soul.
glad to hear you were able to get out on the water after that. Hope everything works out for you.
Last time I had a cortisone show was for a really badly inflamed tendon in my foot. The next day my foot hurt more from the cortisone shot than the bad tendon . On the plus side my foot healed up much faster after the shot .
N.H. also glad to hear you are taking the number one therapy drug…fly fishing. My wife of 58 years old, just got a new knee. She was in a lot of pain for the first couple of days…maybe a week, but is feeling better each day and walking and taking therapy. As a family, I know your suffering, as a fly fisherman I know your road to being cured. As a war veteran with disabilaties, I can understand your pain. I prefer the concequences VS the alternatives.
You sound like a strong fellow, take the high road and take care, Jonezee
I feel your pain buddy. My knees both
started giving me fits in the last year.
My Doc is recommending the shots as well.
Gonna try it in a couple of weeks when I
finish our county’s paddle trails project.
Getting to the point where climbing out of
my kayak is a real chore and I sound a lot
like an old man doing it.G Let us know
how it works for you please. Warm regards,
Jim
I too had a cortizone shot in my knee 2 weeks ago. It’s an old injury that I had opperated on in High School and badly reagravated a few years ago on a training exercise. This is the injury that cost me a full Army scholarship. My doctor is trying to do everything she can to avoid having to do a serious procedure like microfracture. I had the shot on a thursday and was fishing on saturday and the knee has held up through a week of fishing and now feels great. My only word of caution would be to be careful, because your knee will feel so good that you’ll be tempted to try and do to much on it. Also, I’d recomend looking away when they inject you, I think the syringe that she used was the same type I use to inject a deep friedd turkey. All told, I highly recomend the shot.
I’m convinced it’s the way to go. Two
more weeks of running and I’ll have time
for the shots. Certainly sounds encouraging
to me. I guided a reporter and photographer
on a full day of kayaking yesterday. When
we pulled back into the landing, my knees
would not cooperate. They had to help the
old guy out of his kayak. Embarassing to
say the least!G Warm regards, Jim
Eric,
Good news!
How many times do I have to tell ya that usually things aren’t as bad as they first appear?
Folks, I’m still workin’ on Eric…he’s actually makin’ progress!! Repeat after me…“The glass IS half full!”.
Seriously Eric, I hope this works well…sure doesn’t sound as bad as it did at first.
Talk to you soon buddy.
Mikey
Why, Mikey, I am surprised at you! Now, you know that the only time my glass isn’t half full is when it’s half empty.
After my first full day back at work the knee is tender but improved. At least I have most of the range of motion back. Also got my first really good night’s sleep in quite some time. I battle depression as it is and the sleep deprivation was destroying my state of mind.
