Weekend Variety in Iowa (early March 2016)

Flyfished for crappies on Thursday evening:

Sunday was so nice, I decided to try sight-fishing for carp with flies…caught one!:

Saw a few nice bass. Caught one of those, too. 17.5":

Went to another pond to try for Grass Carp. Saw plenty, had zero takers. Caught some nice bluegills instead:
a chunky sow:

and a decent male:

And a jumbo 9.5" Hybrid Sunfish…all on topwater:

That’s really awesome! It would be hard to improve on a day like that.

Looks like you had a great day on the water. Jim

Nice!

I need to find a place up here in MI that has hybrid sunnies. I miss fishing for those!

Caught some nice bluegills and crappies (and tiny bass) on a yellow Boa Yarn Leech last night:

Nice fish! What did the carp take on?

The carp ate a Whitlock’s Near 'Nuff Crayfish… Tied without claws.

@FishnDave Thanks, will have to try tying some.

Memorial Day:

Great fish! Looks like some nice water as well. Thanks for sharing Dave.

Beautiful redear!

On another website (an Iowa-based flyfishing website) I frequent, I was talking with another member about a t-shirt design idea. This other guy is a really good artist/painter. I had an idea for a “Common Sunfish of Iowa” t-shirt, so I mocked up something quickly using some of my photos to show him what I was thinking. Thought I’d share it here:
