Watauga River NC

Fished the delayed harvest section of the Watauga River in the middle of the day Friday. Nice pools and riffles about 10 yards wide. Had a new rod, a 6ft 2/3, just right for casting in tight quarters. First fish on my new rod was a 15" Rainbow, had my hands full for awhile. Landed five in three hours of fishing. A #18 bead head chartreuse Copper John worked well in the riffles and a #14 bead head chamois tan bugger worked in the pools. Only saw one other fisherman.

Would like to see you on that kind of trail. But then we would both feel like we ended up in a crowd ??!!

15" bow on a new 6’ 2/3 is one heck of a way to break it in. What are you gonna do for the second act ?

John, spent another three hours in my kayak Sunday casting to tailing carp with my 8 wt. Wind was 15mph and the carp were in the lee of a couple of grass flats where the Catawba River runs into Lake James. Got skunked this time, the fish got to win every now and then. I just can’t bring myself to use Sugar Pops.

That was a great change of pace, whether you got skunked or not.
