Just to let everyone know, Warren got a great report from the doctor and He showed me a new place to fish Sunday. Cough fish and a few canoes…LOL…spent some time with a friend.

Great news, Wayne, thanks!
If he had not had his wife with him to make him behave, he would probably have stopped on his way back from the doctor’s office. I’m happy to see him back in his natural setting, I feared he would wither like a neglected flower if he wasn’t watered soon.
Thanks for the pictures Wayne! I really enjoyed myself. It has been a long time since surgery on Jan. 31st, and it felt great. I told the surgeon what I had done but made sure he understood that I did more sidearm casting and roll casting and nothing overhead and he said as long as I was careful and did not do anything to strain my shoulder, he would approve of me fly fishing. He told me I had come a long way in 2 1/2 months and my progress was very good. He wants me to continue going to therapy twice a week for the next 4 weeks and then return for a check up on May 28th. He said if I was careful and went to the therapy, he would probably be releasing me on the 28th, to be on my own with home exercises. He said it would take approximately 6 months from the surgery before my shoulder would be completely healed and that would be in July. As it is, I am able to do a lot of things and I will be very careful. At least I am able to fly fish. : )
nice pics, pretty spot…
thanks for posting
Nice pictures. Nice to see Warren back in his element. Best wishes Warren on the remainder of your recovery.
Hey Warren, didn’t know you were ailing, but glad you’re back on the stream. Where were you guys fishing?
lastchance,
For about the last 9 months of last year my casting shoulder and arm was giving me some pain when using a fly rod, weedeater, etc. and I kept thinking it would get better, but, that never happened. So, I decided this past January to get it checked out and the surgeon thought, from viewing the MRI, that all I had was a bone spur which needed ground out. After he got in the shoulder and got the bone spur ground out, he discovered I had a small tear in my rotator cuff tendon and he installed an anchor in the bone and put a stitch in the tear and pulled it down to the bone where it belonged. The surgery was completed on Jan. 31st. and I was in a sling until March 17th. and going to therapy 3 times per week. Needless to say, I was not allowed to use my fly rod and not allowed to tie any flies and I was going crazy, but, I knew if I wanted to ever fly fish and tie flies again, I needed to listen to my therapist and do what they requested. I am now allowed to tie flies and fly fish as long as I do not put any strain on my shoulder. I mostly just sidearm cast and roll cast and that is better than no casting. I am on the mend and will be back 100% very shortly.
We were fishing a section on the Duck River which is the tailwaters below Normandy Dam. Since it was on the weekend, we had to contend with a lot of kayakers but did manage.

Its a secret, but I will say it’s in the beautiful state of Tennessee…LOL…want to come and do some fishing on the DUCK?

Wayne,
In one of your pictures, you did a “no-no” which I told you not to do! Think about it. No harm done, but, don’t do it again, my friend. : )
Warren
Yes I see it. Sorry, I will try to do better. You know how my memory is…LOL.
WayneC
Just remember that there are no trout(s) in Tennessee! There may be a few Swamp Witches (and banjo players) but no trout(s).
Ed
Ya know newbee. now I know exactly dat dere spot where you and Warren were fishing. Remember that many more lurkers read this forum than members. I wouldn’t be surprised if there weren’t a half a dozen cars with Nashville plates the next time you go to or past that spot.

Please don’t say that, I am already in trouble with Warren…If I get my gun and banjo and camp out for a few days at the river, do you think I can keep everyone away?
WayneC
Great to hear wonderful things about two great people. Best to you both!
Mike
Wayne, I doubt you are in trouble with Warren. There just might be a little leg-pulling going on here. ![]()
But quite a few people in Nashville used to read FAOL as lurkers. They might still do so.
I think I’m going to meet Warren next week and I might get to meet you and some of the others down there. I’ve fished any number of times with Jack Hise and I’ve met Popperfly.
Regards,
Ed

Hope to meet you when you make your trip down this way. I would really like to go fishing with ya’ll if It’s Ok with everyone. I will leave my banjo and gun at home and only bring my fishing gear…LOL. If Warren was going to kill me he would have done it by now, LOL. I am still learning about all of these thing, like lurkers and I hope that my mistakes are not to big or cause to much trouble for anyone.

Wayne,
Yes, your “leg” is being pulled! I will let you know when Ed is coming this way to fish and you are more than welcome to tag along. Ed e-mailed me and guessed what the “no-no” was I referred to and, together, we decided to harass you a little. : )
Just curious Warren, how much longer before you can get back in the boat and paddle upstream. I know it’s just one of your fishing tools, but seems to have been a very useful tool.
Jesse,
I feel I could paddle my NuCanoe right now on a small lake like Bedford Lake where I would not be fighting a current but I do not think I want to try and put that much strain on my shoulder to paddle against the river current yet. The surgeon stated that it would take at least 6 months for total healing of the shoulder. That does not me I cannot use the should for casting and other things that do not require a lot of straining of the shoulder. So, I may take my NuCanoe to Bedford Lake in May and see if I can find some of the 9" bluegill moving in to spawn. So, for now, I will be happy to wade the river where wadable and walk the banks to the next wadable area. I just need to be fly fishing and exploring.
