Went out to a pond that I have fished several times. Hiked around to the far point where I started fishing.
Had two rods with me. A black fly one one and a hares ear type fly on the other. Cast both of these out in a fan pattern. Also fished them a different depths. Managed to get one bluegill. Did not know it was on the line Until I started to raise up the rod to cast again.
Moved up about 30 feet and started this routine again. After several casts and not having any more action I changed flies. Went with a white boa yarn fly and a Dr. Mike. Several cast got me two more gills on the Dr. Mike.
Moved again so I could cast along the dam. Thought there might be some fish along the break line.
Was setting everything up when I noticed a swirl in the water just off some trees that were about 40 feet behind me.
Took the Dr. Mike with me and walked back and made a cast. As I was retrieving the line I noticed the loop move just a bit. Set the hook and had a nice bluegill. Tried this again and the same thing happened. The nest cast was bout 5 feet out farther from shore and this time is a nice crappie on the line. Tried this several more time and got a few more crappie.
Fan cast the area and picked up some more fish. Lost many more than I landed. I am sure these were crappie that were lightly hook in the lip and managed to get off. I did see several that I got near shore and the they were off.
Moved to cast along the dam and the first thing I hooked was a big bass. Returned her to the water and tried again. Got a carbon copy that was returned.
Fished along the dam and got a few more crappie. The wind came up more and made it hard to cast into.
Decided it was a good time to head home and take care of some fish that I could share.
