Vairant on Serendipity

Still “working” on this. Not the best looking so far. But, I like the serendipity style fly and trying to adapt it to CDC and a PMD coloration.

Will keep trying. Anyone have better results?

Thanks,
Byron

Or with more traditional deer hair wing buds

That is funny Byron, I have been working on serendipities too. Have not come up with anything to post yet but so far am leaning toward using crinkled Z-Lon for wing but have not settled on anything for sure yet. I do like the coloration you have there.

Be sure to post Kevin!

Planet Trout has some very cool Serendipity patterns at http://planettrout.wordpress.com/2011/04/29/caddis-interrupted/. I really like the way he’s combined different colors and types of materials twisted together for the body. It sparked my imagination.

Byron,

This is one that I put together for the Mother’s Day hatch on the Lower Owens River using DNA Holo Fusion…

Materials MOTHER’S DNA DIP …
HOOK: Daiichi 1560, #14 - #16
THREAD: Tiemco 16/0, Black
ABDOMEN: Strands of DNA, Holo Fusion, Chartreuse
RIB: Ultra Wire, Black, x-sm
WING: 1 Strand of White Zeloon, cut short -ish

Very nice. Does it stay suspended?

Byron,

It is meant to be fished in the water column from the bottom to just under the surface. If I were going to suspend it, I would probably use snowshoe hare for the wing. None of the materials in this design float with consistency. I will tell you that variations on this pattern, in chartreuse, have caught a lot of nice trout for me during the Brachycentrus hatch that comes off on the Lower Owens in late March through the beginning of April - I took about twelve nice Browns and Rainbows out of here, while a guy with a spinning rig was watching me from the opposite bank. I think I converted him…

Thanks PT. am sure it does catch fish. I was using CDC or deer hair, to get it to fish in the film.

its a great dropper below a dry

Byron, if you are still experimenting, you might try Snowshoe Hare’s foot for the wing buds.
