Unkinking Chenille?

I bought some medium chenille in my local fly shop recently that was wound around a card. That winding flattened the chenille where it touched the edges of the card and has left the chenille “kinky”, which really hurts the looks of the finished fly.

Does anybody have a technique to restore the chenille to a uniform diameter?

Thanks!

I think steam was suggested in an earlier post!!??

Yep just steam it. But be careful with the heat as it will effect the chenille if you do not. Ron

Great tip! I got out the tea kettle and ran it through the steam. It was kind of a “Meet Mr. Wizard” experience. As the chenille fluffed up it also rotated. All kinks now gone.

Thanks much!

That’s what we’re here for!

I wonder how people ever learned to tie before the Net. I read a couple of beginner’s books and then took some lessons at the local fly shop, which helped immensely.

But now I go to the Net for the great instructions that are out there and, when I hit someting unusual like this one, I come here with a question.

It always amazes and delights me to get back fast responses from highly experienced folks. There’s a ton of wisdom and generosity with advice on this board. Y’all should take a collective bow.

Oldfrat, don’t tell anyone, but before the internet, I always just asked my mother when I had a tough question. She would have known the chenille question, no doubt.
