Not sure it is the “ultimate”, but do like the slight curve at the thorax in these Orvis hooks.
Size 18 for a BWO

There like the Daiichi
Which model?
Never mind. I found the Weamer.
Daiichi 1220 . I think most Orvis hooks are made by Daiichi.
yep they sure are
Great looking BWO! I might have to find me some of those hooks. Thanks for the heads-up!

Actually I lied. The one Byron pictured, with “chrystal finish”, would be a 1222. The 1220 has a bronze finish.
Sorry, but the “ultimate” dry fly hook must be barbless.
good point. Can be made that way with hemostats - or in the vise…I am slowly switching as all the water I currently fish is barbless only and I am tired of flattening the hook on stream.
I always flatten the barb before tying the fly. I have had the points break off some hooks when flattening the barbs, so I would rather have this happen before tying the fly rather than after.

Funny, I was just recalling the other day, how (long ago) we used to ask the shop owner to flatten the barb when we purchased flies at a shop on the river for that very reason. In those days, they didn’t mind doing so.
