I had some old FLOR grade rings sitting around for the past ten years and recently aquired a Sage 590LL blank. Well, instead of dropping $25.00 on a pre-formed grip I decided to builde one. Glued the rings together w/ Tightbond III on a 3/8" threaded shaft w/ washers and wing nuts for tension. After drying I then left it on the shaft and put it in my cordless drill and started sanding away. I did however, make a pattern from my GLX 6wt and went by that. Well, what do you think? I was very apprehensive because I didn’t have all the fancy equipment but rather basic power tools but I think it worked out very well.
Really looks good. Now, just get it on a rod.
Nice work.
No doubt that every time you pick up the rod you will be glad that you built this handle rather than using a preformed !!
Looks great flyfish-mt and you saved a ton making it yourself. Good luck with the Sage project !

Amazingly easy isn’t it!
The best part is you get to custom fit it to your hand. I always like that because most premades are just a little on the thin side for me.
That grip looks great. It’s more than likely better than any preformed grip.
Have fun with that Sage build!
