TriUngulate Hairwing Dun II

Just playing around (and it shows); the tail?s too short and skimpy but the overall effect is interesting. Switched the orientation on the deer hair from horizontal to vertical.

Dude…I love the look of number II. That thing is buggy and I bet it would float like a cork. Solid ties my friend!
scott what is the name of the technique you used to tie the body for fly number 1. got some ideas for a emerger style caddis pattern and think the wrapped hair style body would greatly improve the floatability of the fly.
thanks
John,
The spiral wrapped deer hair-bodied flies were popularized in the mid-1900’s by tyers in Michigan. The late Tom Deschaine posted a number of them here, and also on the excellent Michigandryflies site. I’ve got a few SBS’s here that show how I tie them, like Ralph Hannah’s Deer Hair Drake. Tim Neal also has some nice videos of various Michigan flies, including the spiral wrapped ones.

Scott
thanks scott, I figured you probably had posted an sbs on this style of body, but figured it would take a week or so to find one . you’ve posted so many. thanks for the help and keep up the great work
Michiganders would be proud of these flies. Good job as usual.
