Treating Dry Flies

In the Tying Tips archive there was a tip regarding treating dry flies with liquid silicon.

This seems to be a very practical idea, so my question is this. Does anyone pre-waterproof their flies, and if so, what products do you use?

buckeyetier;
Good question, reread the article and think I’ll coast along with your post to see what response you get.

I was given a small bottle of “WATER SHED” from Hareline Dubbin Inc Monroe Oregon to try and it has proved to be very good.

A drop or two after tying the fly, and next day it floats all day and the next and the next and so on.

Sure seems to stand up to its Hype. Jax

I’m a much better Fly fisher when talking fishing, than when I’m Actually Fly fishing!

When I sit down to tie dries I keep a small container of Rain-X (yes, the windshield stuff)on the bench. When the fly comes out of the vise it goes in the Rain-X, then gets hung up to dry over night.

The late Al Campbell told me about that stuff. Worked for him and me, despite repeated applications of fish spit on the flies.
