whats the strongest???
- Joel
It really is not that simple. Studies have shown that the same knot can test a 40% variance in strength because of how well different people tie it. It you add in varying tippet materials different brands fluro vs mono etc, knot strenght will vary even more. Find a few knots tha are easy for you to tie well and stick with them.
The pitkin knot is one of the strongest for me and my own personal testing. If you want a loop knot, The surgeon loop or nonslip loop work great for me.
You will get a wide range of answers on this one.
I think OK hit it right on the head. You have to know a few different types of knots (attaching, loops, ect) and there are many types to get the job done. Some are easier for people than others, and you go with the easy ones for you. Check out the knot section here at FAOL for some good ones, and Practical Knots by Kreh/Sosin will give you all the knots you will ever need. Check out the figure 8 and the castwell knot here, I started using these with great success this season, and they are (for me!) really easy to tie.

What do the experienced guides, who can’t afford to have their clients loose big fish to bad knots and need to tie them quickly by the hundreds, use?
