Tippet Ring vs Swivel

Been thinking about substituting micro swivels where tippet rings are normally used. Any thoughts?

I don’t know why they wouldn’t be just fine. I know a few guys that have used them.

Some of our bushier bugs can tend to twist the line and we find the micro swivel to cure that for us. Much easier than trimming and too lazy to tie differently I guess.

I use the on my six weights and higher. They do weigh more then tippet rings and will influence the float of my smaller dries

I forgot to mention I use my tippet ring on my nymph leader, but I’ve also cast dry flies with it when I’m too lazy to make the change. Of course you certainly get better dry fly drifts without the tippet ring or swivel.

All my dry fly fishing is with thread furled leaders with a tippet ring incorporated during the furling process. With that setup, I am confident that the tippet ring in no way negatively affects the drift of even the smallest fly on the lightest tippet.

I do consistently use thread furled leaders that are designed to submerge ( but will not sink even really small dry flies ) which may be part of the equation.

The fish are always right.
