I was at the fly show down here last weekend and saw The folks at tie-fast demo the knot tyer tool I’ve seen it around for years but never tried it or seen anyone use one. I was blown away. Easiest nail knots on the planet. I picked one up. Anyone else try this bad boy?
OH, yeah! The only one I can tie a Nail Knot with.
Yes…use it frequently.
Tie-fast is the only way to go for nails.
I have to get one of those, just watched the video and am impressed.

There is/was a video on using it…for a variety of ways…I searched but the links seem to dead end…
Also this tool…or one like it… I carry on the water…3 functions …one of which is the fast tie type end.

BTW I like it for double uni’s too.
To think I been doing it wrong all this time…
Hi Paul. Great meeting you at the show this weekend. I saw the demo too. I bought one similar at the Fred Hall Show about a dozen years ago. It’s lost on the bottom of my tackle bag. Guess I’ll have to dig it out and start using it again. Jim
The Tie Fast Combo model is always with me on fresh waters. I like the clippers a lot (not so good for salt water), there is a good eye cleaner and tiny hook sharpener. I have used them for over 10 years and yet to have a complaint, and they work great for knotting too.
Greatest little invention, and I use the hook sharpener.
I have also a tiny version of the tool I keep on my key ring at my fly tying station.
yeah, nice meeting you too - always nice to put a face to a post… I agree with some of the other folks here, that combo tool looks like the way to go!
I saw the online video a few months back and went out and bought one. Have since tied a couple hundred knots with it, and it does work great!
Ya know, I bought one of those things a while back but just from reading the instructions I could never get the hang of it. I just watched the video and was amazed at how easy it was. I found my old tool and started practicing and in just a couple of minutes I had it down perfectly! That came just in the nick of time too because I have been having problems with tying my flies on lately. In fact, just yesterday I lost a nice little bass because my knot tying the fly to the line came undone.
This tool is going on my lanyard right now!
Best nail knot I have used. I also have the clippers which are great.
I much prefer the speed nail knot, no tool to carry around or loose:

Would like a way to make a blood knot easier and the double nail looks like it might work like a dream with the tool. I tie a double or tripple surgeons on the water depending on tippet thickness.
I have a Tie-Fast clipped to my lanyard and it is with me anytime I go fishing. That and the Cinch Knot Tyer tool are great, the only way to go.
When I was working the Washington State Council FFF both at the Bellevue, WA Fly Fishing Show, I took a walk around the show and ran into a group of women who call themselves Ladies of the Fly or something like that. The were standing around a birds nest mess of leader. They asked me if I knew how to tie knots.
I went over to the Tie-Fast booth and got a tool for them and showed them the nail knot. They loved it and I took them over to the booth. They ended up buying a number of tools from the dealer.
Everyone should have a Tie-Fast tool with them when fishing.
I use it to tie my line to my backing, my leader to my line and often I cut the leader and use a double nail knot to tie the leaders together.
A MUST HAVE TOOL!!!

Eric,
Thanks for posting the video. I bought a combo a long time ago and couldn’t figure out the simplicity of the tool. Snapping the knot off was what I did wrong. The video really helped staighten things out.
Thanks again,
Beaver
Beaver, your welcome
With a name like that and being an Ag consultant, did you attend Oregon State?
Eric
Nope. Never mess with a nail knot…ever.
Scientific Anglers L2L leaders.
I have one and love it
