Thread on spools

Hi all,
This probably has been covered ad nauseum, but how do you out there keep the silly thread on the spool? I have some of the “buttons”, but that makes it difficult to put on my spool caddy.
Thanks,
Mike

Get yourself some large plastic comb binders from a stationary supplier. Cut them up so there is a couple of the tynes joined by a piece of spline. These will fit around the spool, hold everything in place and fit your caddie. They are available in different colours so you could colour code them. Black for thread, red for floss white for wire etc.
Cheers,
Alan.

What kind of thread? All mine - Uni, Danville, UTC, Gudebrod either have a slit cut in the edge or a slot to put the thread in so it doesn’t unwind.

Regards,
Scott

I like the clip idea a lot. I can’t seem to find the flippin cut on some of the spools, the binders are big!!
Thanks, looking forward to more ideas.
Mike

You can use the elastics that girls use to hold pony tails.

Rubber band will do the same thing or you can do it with velcro. Mark the cut in the spool with a permanent marker. The ultimate solution a piece of Duck Tape.

rubber bands always work for me. get a bag of small, fairly wide bands, they’ll hold the thread on quiet well.

I use the cut on the spool. If there is no cut, make one with a sharp knife. If you can’t find the cuts easily, open up the edge a little with a knife. Once the edge is opened a little, I don’t even need to visually find the cut, I just wind the thread around the edge of he spool until it is caught by the cut.

Yes. Look at the rims of the spools.

I use small rubber bands and always leave them on the spool even when the thread is in the bobbin.

Don’t do what I did…small rubber bands from the dollar store…disintegrated in less than a year.

Good commment Ducksterman. Go to a real stationery place like Staples.

I do what Allan suggest. Rubber bands work for a while but they also rot and stick to the thread.

If you have a unused manual, take the comb binder off. If you have a print shop in your area, go and ask for a couple in the right size. I got a lifetime supply from my hospital print shop.

Some of you may not know what Alan is talking about so here’s a photo. You can see that the “arms” of the comb will fit around the thread spool. Just cut them to size.

I just started using ladies hair bands, like very small pony tail holders. They’ve worked fine for me so far.
