…were quite active at the pond this weekend and the temptation for the bass was grand to behold.

It is a hoot watching bass clear the water by feet and cover distances of several feet thru the air as they try for’em.
Of course, opportunistic as the bass seem, any floater (frog or fish immi by choice ) tossed to the GRASS edge would produce a grand explosion, if Mr.Bass was in close by.

Hi Lee,

Year before last while fishing a soft hackle
for bluegills, I actually hooked one of
those kritters on my back cast. As it
landed slowly on the forward cast with a
lot of fluttering activity, it was quickly
engulfed by a large mouth.G I guess I do

Nice pics! Went kayaking with the family today and saw plenty of those things flying around. Saw a pair of them working on the next generation as well (no pics though…this is a family forum).

Hi,
Last summer my wife and I were fishing at Dicky’s Flat and found a nice large pool at the top of a good riffle. We watched the trout leaping out of the water. I watched this one red damsel fly as it flew over the water and then “bang”, out leaped this trout and snatched it in mid-air! Was great to see. We both fished the area hard, but neither of us had anything that resembled an adult damsel fly (in red or any other colour) and the trout were just not interested in anything else.

I have a pattern book that seems to suggest that trout don’t care much for the “adult form” and that it’s really just the damsel and dragonfly nymphs that one needs. Hence our lack of immitations. Which is being corrected these days.

Had one pick my leader out of mid-air (on the forward cast) and carry it a few feet before dropping it.

“Flip a fly”

Saw one yesterday being chased by a bird. It reminded me of a WW II fighter plane dog fight. Don’t know who won as I was doing 65 mph and passed by before the final sceene.
