The Slingshot Cast

Just wondering if anyone else has ever used this cast with any success? I have tried it, oh maybe 15 times and caught fish twice with it. Anyone else?

Is that the same as the Bow & Arrow cast? If so, it’s a small stream gotta-do!

What Jackster said…

I fished a creek last week where casting in the conventional manner was totally impossible. Bow & Arrow/Slingshot casts worked for about 20 yards. After that it was all dap & drift.

Ain’t small stream fishing grand?

I did try it a few times. I didn’t catch a fish, but it did put the fly where I was aiming.

I bought that little 6’ 3wt for just that reason. I shot a fly under a bridge with hubby watching and first cast, he said are you snagged. I laughed and pulled out a nice little Rainbow, said yeah, I am snagged on a trout

A 5’0" 2pc 3wt should arrive tomorrow for that creek above! Maybe I’ll actually be able to cast!

I swear that picture is a great little spot I found this last fall up in the Uinta’s 8)

I’m new to fly fishing and was wondering, what a bow and arrow cast is?

It’s a fairly short cast. You let some line out and grab the end of the line and pull it back putting a bow in your rod. Then just aim and let it go. Shoots it out like a slingshot. (sort of)

Slingshot/Bow and Arrow-you got it! I love this cast!! Bamboozle, wow uh yep that is certainly a small stream that this cast was made for.
I actually pulled a 16 in brown out from underneath a very overgrown hole where I had to actually stand sideways between an openening in the trees and shoot it in a side arm motion on a Central Ut stream called Nebo Creek. The second that para-adams hit the water he was on. Good Times!!

Ok thanks.

I find that the bow and arrow cast is the easiest way to stab a hook into my finger.
You really need to pay attention when using it.

I was beginning to think it was just me

Fingers AND shirt sleeves when I’m fishing in winter.

Hey bamboozle
Mind elaborating a bit on that 5’er you were talking about…cane?

Good question. I do have a 5’3" Fenwick glass that is perfect.

No not cane since I’m not into the Banty thing and there aren’t a whole lot of 5’0" 3wt bamboo rods out there, at least not any I’ve run across with a slower action.

This is a Winston Retro fiberglass; brand new, or should I say “new old stock” WITH warranty which SHOULD arrive whenever UPS gets here.

Soon I HOPE!

I had a chance to buy one of those on ebay. I wasn’t sure about glass then and passed it up. I’m a dummy. :frowning:

Gramps, I wished we fished the same waters, cause I have several DIFFERENT glass rods I would love you to try. (Not to mention the little Tea Stick  )
