The Popper Hatch

[CENTER]Look closely and you will notice one important thing. The water is empty. Not of fish, but of fishermen. And 360 degrees around me the view was the same. There are plenty of bass, gills and pickerel to be had. And all willing to crash your well-placed popper. But it’s virtually unfishable unless you “get in”. I guess that scares folks off? And do you want to know what makes it even funnier?..There is an Orvis Proshop less than 3 miles away on the same road.

Nice story, looks likeafun place to fish

Hey, man, in your haste to publish this post, you left out directions to the spot. I know it’s a minor oversight, but, how am I supposed to find it? If Jersey is anything like it is down here, all there are are Orvis shops…

Lol…I have to leave a little work to the rest.

Next you’ll want to know what exit its off of. Hahahah!

If you just tell us when you were there, I can post the GPS coordinates from the tracker on your car…

Ed

Agh…that darned Google!

Hey Ralph. Were you able to wade that pond? Did you catch any gills, perch or crappies? Just wondering, Bruce

Bruce, Yes. not much over waist deep at any given point, but there is a small channel. Slow going, and your gear needs hosed down afterward from the bottom. Plenty of large bluegills, and a good number of Pickerel. No crappie though. Plenty of bass.

Great read Ralph,
Some of the farm ponds we have access to around here are quite similar in that most fish are 3wt fun. Not having pickerel around, the occasional big fish is generally a large bass, which will grab a fish the size shown and scale the whole thing. Of the several ponds like this, we have yet to land one of the bigger fish, as the “bait” always pulls out when pressure is seriously applied…even after the whole fly line is surrendered for “swallow time”.
Precious ponds indeed!
