The Mystery, a George Kelsen atlantic salmon fly

There are several variations of this fly. This specific pattern is from George Kelsen, from an 1887 article in The Land and Water weekly journal.

Hook: Mustad 3366, size 2/0 (I use this hook for practicing - I need more practice on this fly)
Thread: White 70 denier for the body, Black 70 denier for the wing and head of the fly
Tag: Silver oval tinsel and yellow floss
Tail: Golden pheasant crest
Butt: Black ostrich herl
Body: Pink floss
Rib: Flat silver tinsel
Body hackle: Grizzly dun, starting from second turn of the rib
Throat: Claret
Wing: Two strips of yellow goose shoulder or turkey and two narrow strips of red goose shoulder above
Head: Black ostrich herl

Enjoy,

Alberto
