The insperation of Castwell?

"Then do you mean that I have to go to go on catching these damned two-and-a-half pounders at this corner forever and ever?. The keeper nodded. “Hell” said Mr. Castwell. “Yes” said his keeper.

This may have been brought up before my time here J.C. but I had to ask if this provided insperation for your monicker? Unless of course I am all wrong and your real name is Castwell…can I see your passport?

yes

I guess seeing as JC has set a good example for the rest of us and has come clean. I will have to confess that I too am using an alias.
 My real name is Not really
Gnu Bee Flyer
I’m so ashamed

No alias here my mom named me fish4trout.

Let it be known that if I am calling in “sick” on a Wednesday, guess what I’m doing?

Was thinking of changing my name from Heritage Angler to a symbol like Prince did. Something like this: :tieone: That wouldn’t be good for signing checks though, since I can’t draw to save my life.

I’m ashamed also because I shortend my given name for my BB name. Please don’t tell my Mother!
JC, Did you know that 47 Castwell? Was he related to you?
Thanks,
Doug

The story is this. My buddy used to write a weekly newspaper fishing column. In it sometimes were mentions of his buddy (me) and our adventures when we went ‘crabbing.’ Before long he referred to me as ‘Crabby-Crabbwell’. Then I was asked to be the casting editor of the ‘Quill’, the paper of FFF. I have always loved the story about Castwell and as the casting editor it was an easy switch from ‘Crabbwell’ to ‘Castwell’.

Makes sense to me J.C. Thanks for the history. What kind of crabs, where? I have fond memories of crabbing for Dungeness in Netarts Bay Oregon growing up and lots of Rock Crab in Hammersly Inlet, Puget Sound. I just love those sweet big Rock Crab claws. Takes a lot to make a meal but then there are lots of them.

Dungies, Jonezee. We can pluck them right here off of our beach, set traps for them or buy them live in the grocery store year around. I sold my crab-traps, lines and buoys but, had a fun few years doing my own crabbing. In January (low winter tides) we used to go out about 6pm (dark) into the shallows with a floating bucket, a pitch-fork thing and a Coleman lantern. You could see the crabs and if you were quick and you could ‘hassle’ them, they would grab onto the fork and you could lift them out of the water and rap them on the bucket where they fell off and into it.

And if you cook them right away … WOW… 8) 8) 8)

One evening, about ten years back, the LF, I, a buddy and his wife ‘scratched-up’ 27, I think it was, from off of our beach. I have a big propane crab-cooker and a fully vented roof system in our garage. We fired it up, steamed them up and ate the whole bunch. By midnight!

I’m drooling  :x
