The History of Fly-Fishing in Fifty Flies
I think the title of this book is a bit pretentious but the author has done an admirable job in laying the ground work for a study of the history of flies used for fishing. The work is hardly exhaustive but traces some of the interesting developments in fly tying techniques over several centuries. There are interesting bits of angling history, biographical information on some of the historical individuals that made important contributions to the sport of fly fishing and the art of fly tying. The book contains material on the evolution of fly-fishing tackle in a series of short essays throughout the book. Well-illustrated throughout with an ample bibliography this book will make a nice addition to the library of an angler interested in the history of the sport.
