The sole outfitter on the lower Coeur d’Alene River has become so busy that today he hired (and licensed) me to help with the overflow of people wanting a “Taste” of fly fishing in North Idaho. This Friday I’ll be guiding a group of newbees on a wade trip at the spot where the North Fork and the South Fork meet to form the main river. The weather has been very hot and the rivers are warm. Cooler weather is on the way and that may help. It’s also hopper time so we’ll be tossing big bugs that we can see!
Wow! Now I have a job that I really enjoy!!

I vote for number 2! Just remember 2 things…the sports will cast better if they are using a Hog Creek furled Leaders and don’t let them wear a bright yellow rain slicker!

Good luck, be gentle to those who refuse to listen to you, and ALWAYS wear protective eye glasses. The last newbee I tried to teach was a 13 year old boy with learning difficulties. Without letting me know, he decided to walk over and cast over towards where I was fishing. On starting his backcast, his fly came over the rim of my Tilley hat smacked me right on my eyeglass lense. Startled the crap out of me. Teaching newbees can be loads of fun, but it can also quickly become combat fishing. Best of luck with your new job.

First trip as a pro was a walk in the park! We fished a stretch of the Coeur d’Alene River right at the juncture of the North and South Fork. Excellent access, easy wading and eager fish. Everyone, me included, had a great time! And, I’m getting PAID to do this???
Tell your clients you expect a tip up front, Ha!
