Here are just a few pictures of how healthy our trout are getting here in Tennessee on the Cicada hatch. These were caught on a bugger and John Scott’s PSC. Thanks so much John for the pattern.
Warren,
Were these fish caught on the Elk??
Liljoe,
Yes, they were! When you coming to fish with me again? Soon I hope. Have not seen you for a long time and would really like to take you fishing again and show you more of the Elk River. Just let me know.
Ok maybe we can go sometime in July??
Liljoe,
Just let me know when and if you need me to come and get you and take you back after we finish fishing, let me know and I will be happy to do that.
Ok my mom will be coming to. And if you don’t mind me asking what fly were you using in those pics?
Liljoe,
At the present time, I am catching my fish on one of three flies I tie up. An olive with black hackle wooley bugger with a 1/8oz tungsten bead plus 5 wraps of .020 lead wire on the hook shank shoved up into the bead on a size 8 hopper hook. Also one of John Scott’s PSC (Pine Squirrel Cheater which is in the FOTW archives) in sculpin olive with 8 wraps of .020 lead wire on the hook shank and my Flymph in brown/tan which is on a #10 hook and weighted with 8 wraps of .020 lead wire in the thorax area.
You will not need to worry about having any of these flies with you. I will provide you with flies as needed.
Hi Warren. We had a 17-year cicada hatch two years ago here in Central, PA, and what a blast. Like you said, those trout were just pigging out. We all used a foam cicada and fished on top and had a great couple weeks. At times there were 2 and 3 fish chasing the fly at the same time. I never thought of fishing streamers for them, but I’ll try it the next time I run into a hatch. Have fun!
Bruce
Ok thanks for the info, and I can’t wait to get out there and wet some line!
