I made another kind of bee pattern. This time more like a bumble bee(~ size 6 curved scud hook, chartreuse chenile on back, black on front, front half with black hackle.
BIG bream and bass were hitting it well.

Like this (minus the scud hook)?

You think the fish really want the bee’s? How about killer bee’s?
i’ll try some bees here Thursday at the local lake.
Panfish love bees. I was at a pond with a large hive hanging over the pond in a large tree.
Dead and injured bees must have fallen out of the hive. In any case each time I cast a foam bee pattern there I had a fish hit it.
I have caught alot of bluegill of a fam bee pattern.

I haven’t fished with bees yet, so i have a question. Do the gills/panfish hit on top or when it sinks. do you tie yours wet or dry, do you prefer one or the other.
Thanks

Both surface and subsurface for me. I like the #10 Improved McGinty wet fly for when they bite subsurface but I get good surface bites from a yellow/black foam bee type also. Just depends on which they want.
Seen a Bumble bee hit the water a few feet away from me landed wings down after a mid air fight with another bee…it buzzed for about half a second and bloop…gone as a rather nice brown took em…I alway’s have a few with me from early spring right through fall…tied with sparrow wing point feathers for wings, Black deer hair for the back 3rd then stacked yellow over black for the middle 3rd and finnished off with black for the head. Black hen or rooster cape spiraled through the front 2 3rds for the legs…works great for panfish,LMB and Smallies alike as well…
I second the #10 Improved McGinty! Bucket Mouthes love them too!

So… do you think a fish can actually get stung when eating a bee or wasp with a stinger?
Kinda like getting a shot at the dentist.
Ouch.
-I hackle the whole black portion.
-They hit it on the drop mostly but will hit it on a slow strip. They will also hit it as soon as it hits the water!
