The Appleseed

The Appleseed is a personal pattern of mine and one that has served my box exceedingly well over the course of the past 8 years or so. During the Apple Caddis hatch this pattern turns those splashy rising fish into fish-in-hand.

I like.

Tip (although you probably know this): Y’know when the thread kept jumping towards the eye when you tried to tie in the hackle? You can get that to stop by spinning your thread counter clockwise.

Steven, yes’sir. Blame it on stubbornness or laziness that I fought it and didn’t take the time.

I like that fly. Is there a reason you don’t use the pinch wrap when applying materials?
Thanks. I will tie some myself.

Byron, I do for the most part on materials that I tie in on top. But some materials that I tie in on the side of the shank I don’t. Ralph

Actually, to be more accurate for both questions…After years of filling custom orders and meticulous tying, I tend to go with what I am able to do on a given day. I was diagnosed with Left-side Parkinsons a year ago. SO my left hand is not always my friend. That’s why some of the videos you will see me have a rough time with scissors when trimming, and at times my material handling with my left hand lacks a bit. I refuse to let it kick my butt though, so no problem really. It is what it is.

Sorry to hear that Ralph! Just wondered as I watched the video.
