Testing Size of Photo

Testing to see what a thumbnail photo looks like in different sizes. One is 8 in and one is 12.

… looks like exactly the same photo in the two different frames to me.

John

Or was this a trick to post a pic of that neat fly two times ??

No trick John. It is the same picture of the Hornberg. What I was trying to determine what size of picture looked best for a thumbnail. Some thumbnails posted are real tiny & other too large. If you check again you should see a difference in the size of the photo.

Thanks for the kind comment about the fly.

Tim

When I toggle back and forth between the two images, the image stays the same while the notation at the lower right corner changes from 8 to 12 to 8 to 12 …

Starting to think you’re messing with my mind, Tim. And there’s not all that much there to mess with !!:frowning:

John

LOL I see two different size pictures with the 12 being bigger. Like I said I ain’t playing games. Perhaps somebody else will comment.

Tim

same size pictures for me also

#2 is definitely larger

are they enlarged? they look pixelated like beyond the graphics software capability…or just inside the camera focus limits.

Wes: The photo was taken several years ago with a cheap camera by a novice potographer (me). It has been sized and resized several times throughout the years. I took the picture, that Paint Shop Pro said was 8 inches wide, and resized it to 12 inches wide. I then placed both of them on the initial post to see the difference.

Tim

thanks tim that 'splains it. just so’s y’all know the “12” pic is larger.

I’m with John on this one. I see no difference in either pic

i think you have to click on the thumbnail pics tosee the actual differences

The #12 is larger but is only displayed at 64%, the #8 is displayed at 94%, probably the photo display is bound by the hosting software…there may be a toggle somewhere that allows “photo to display at actual size”, or something along those lines.

If you click on the thumb and then just mouse hoover the “full size” images you can see the specs, using Explorer 8.

For my browser (Google Chrome), the 12 appears larger when going back and forth between the two images, even though it’s only shown at 86% while the 8 is at 100% in the photo viewer. If you click on each one again to open it in a new web page then you can clearly see the difference. I’m guessing the browser has a maximum size it will show for thumbnails since the 12 looks about as big as I can remember seeing. If the image is smaller it shows it as is, if the image is bigger it scales it back down to whatever the max size is and shows the percentage it scaled to when you hold the mouse over the picture. Looks like the max is somewhere between 8in and 12in using your software to size and my browser to view but I imagine it could be different for other software and browser combinations.

Hornberg12.jpg; 864 x 645 (@72%)

Just for the record. I have a Photo Bucket account. I don’t like to go to them because of all their pop-ups and BS (yes I have a blocker). I have been submitting photos to FAOL via the thumbnail method bcause of this. I saw other thumbnails that were too big or too small so I decided to try to find the size I would submit to FAOL. Thus the original post was made. Right after making it I reviewed the results and tried to delete the post but was unable to do so. I just wanted to find out what size of photos I should submit.

Have a nice day - Tim

in lieu of posting pics using inch measurements, it is often advised that 600 pixels wide is a good size for forums and bulletin boards.

i also read somewhere today that you should never work on the original photo but make a copy of the original to work on or manipulate.

I found a clue why they looked exactly the same size to me when i 8-12’vd-8-12vd-8-12v’d (got that from John) because some were saying it was the same and some weren’t…i keep my screen zoomed and at some point the pics are the same size but the mouse over gave me an idea and so i zoomed out a bit and lo and behold…two different sizes…

Cheers,

MontanaMoose
