I purchased an 8’ 4 piece 4 wt Professional series some time ago and had a small problem with the top piece, it would work its way loose after about 30 casts. I emailed TFO and sent it off to Dallas and they had it back to me in 2 days fixed and ready to fish (I had to pay shipping but hey). I was impressed by the service and just wanted thank them for it.

Dustin,
My fishin’ buddy has a TFO rod and it casts every bit as well as my Orvi$ rod. Kinda made me feel like an idgit for paying so much for mine.
They do make a quality rod and have good customer service. It’d be hard to go wrong by them. I also read somewhere (maybe on here, can’t recall) that they are going to be relasing a line of reels soon too.
I too purchased a TFO 9’ 4wt pro series and am really impressed with it.I’m glad to here that they’re service is this good.

I have two Pro series rods. 4wt 4 pc 9’ and 8wt 4pc 9’.
Very nice rods. The eight wt rod had a major flaw when purchased, it had a noticable bend at the third connection. After contacting Rick Pope, he had his people send out a brand new rod right away. Because the rod was new out of the package, they paid for the shipping. Great service!! -Yaf
I recently bought a 6 weight pro series. At the shop I bought it from they told me that many people had been overlining these rods but I use it with 6 wt Scientific Angler’s XXD. It seems to cast well enough with larger flies.
Yes they are releasing a line of reels - I saw them at the show here in Calgary a month ago. Good looking reels at an affordable price ($100-200). If they are as good with service on the reels as they are with rods, I’ll be all in on the rest of my guide rods for sure. (Though I’d have a tough time replacing my Islander on my 3wt )

I have used the cheaper model in a 8ft 4W for two years on smaller rivers. I have loved this rod. Balance with a 4W line (I prefer the ol’ COrtland peach in DT) it matches my casting “technique” perfectly. Very accurate and precise. I bought a 9ft 6W at the end of the season for fishing big rivers in the early season when I used lots of big nymphs and buggers… Haven’t tried it yet, however, but it is allset to go… as soon as all this white stuff disappears g

Castwell,
I understand your concern but I highly doubt that this shop had the kind of nefarious intent that you are implying. The kid in the shop who told me this said that some of their customers had been overlining their TFO rods, but the kid who told me this has zero experience fly fishing. The store is really more geared for saltwater gear fisherman and they have a fly fishing manager who only works a few days a week. I mainly go in there because they have some good deals and they know more about their products than the morons who work in the Bass Pro Shops fly fishing section.
Devil’s Ditch,
I’m guessing you live in the west part of Houston and near I-10.
I was going to guess Long Island. I personally don’t think that guy has a nefarious reason either. He’s a really nice guy and very helpful.
On a trip in Maine last summer, the guide I was with told me that the Maine TFO rep (not the fly shop) overlined all of his demo rods.
BTW, I have a TiCR, and I don’t overline it. But these encounters suggest that many commonly do.
Don’t overline those TFO rods. They are designed perfetly to cast the line wt that is stamped on them. I use a 6 wt TiCr to cast topwater flies to schoolie sized striped bass. 1/0 Crease Flies and the like. No need for overlining.
I live in Williamsburg, Virginia. The tackle shop I was talking about is called Bishop Tackle and it’s in Hampton/Yorktown. They totally love the TFO rods and they can’t keep them in the shop. Fly Fishing for Stripers has been and continues to take off.
I believe that I cast one of that brand at our fly fishing seminar when we were setting up last Saturday. I was able to cast the whole line with leader but don’t know the length of the line. It seemed to be well finished and cast like a bazokah if thats what you like.
