Take away my credit card,

because I just ordered a 7’0" 1wt rod, and have not touched the two 2wt’s still in their bags. A friend has this rod that he bought from Cabelas for $99, and I’m intriqued that he fishes Lake Erie for smallmouth bass with a full sinking line on this rod. He showed me some pics of the 4-5# smallies he’s landed, and that was all it took to get me psyched up for another build. The blank is matte black and I’ll be using all titanium hardware for this build. I’m leaning toward Gudebrod Candy Apple Red thread with metallic silver single wrap accents. Here’s the practice wrap I did last night on a glossy black rod and one caot of Flex Coat High Build.

Joe,

I did a wrap on a flat black blank using Gudebrod Candy Apple Red (no color preservative) with metallic gold (3 alternating gold and red turns) at the end away fron the gude foot. The subdued colors look great!! You might want to try a practice wrap to check the colors together.

Thanks, I’ll give that a shot. There’s still lots of space left on the old Browning 8wt that weighs a ton. Sure makes a nice practice stick though.
