Surgery today

Our boy Gary’s thyroid cancer surgery was postponed until 1PM today. Gary’s a bit nervous but one brave young guy. Mom is a nervous wreck and I am very nervous myself. We will be going to the Hershey Medical Center very shortly.

If you get a chance please send a thought, prayer, wish our way today.

I will never forget the day that little boy climbed up on my knee professing to me that he decided to call me dad. Got to go. Getting too hard to read the screen right now.

Thanks and Blessings to you all.

Eric.

P.S. Gary’s “real dad” or as Gary calls him the sperm donor has been basically a no show through all of this. I have been his dad since he was 4 years old, 23 fantastic years and counting. These have been the best days of my life. I honestly don’t understand how people can have children and not want to be involved in their lives, but that’s me. Okay I do pray for his biological father too. My Lord loves us all. Off soap box now.

nighthawk,My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family

Prayers for a speedy recovery.

Get well quickly Gary, your dad needs you.

Kerry

My prayers of course.

Prayers are coming from here, Eric.

Trust me, Gary has only one “real dad”…and it isn’t the other guy. As a man who hasn’t seen his biological father since kindergarten, I was blessed with a step-father we called “Dad” in every sense of the word. Dad is something you do, not a title. I think Gary was wise to pick you for that job.

Oh man you know were with you and your boy…

My thoughts are with you and your family Nighthawk.
Please let us know how it goes when you can.
All the best.
Mike

Eric, it goes without saying, you have our prayers and best wishes, always!!

Get well my young friend, Hershey hospital. miracales done daily

I will be praying for him and you and mom

Our thoughts are with you and your family.

Survivor

What a long, long day. We are all worn out. Surgery originally scheduled for 1PM was postponed to 2:45PM due to an emergency with another patient. Surgery lasted until 6:30pm and we saw Gary’s surgeon at 7PM.

Surgeon told us Gary did great, no spread of the cancer beyond the thyroid, removed lymph nodes as a precaution but they are okay. He told us we could wait upstairs int the waiting room we were currently. We decide to go get a bite to eat in the cafe, I decide to head home to try and get some rest for work. I got turned around try to get out of the medical center so I sit down to rest my back at Starbucks.

Good thing I did as Amy calls me really ticked off! A nurse comes up and says she will take her to see Gary. Then another rude nurse tells her Gary isn’t out of recovery yet and that she has to wait down stairs by Starbucks or they will not get in touch with her because it is after hours. Amy tells her that there is no sign posted to that effect in the regular upstairs waiting room, the surgeon told her to wait there and she is having a tough time getting around due to her disability. She was told that’s too bad but you have to wait downstairs! Now Amy is absolutely furious, calls me on the phone but I just so happened to be sitting at Starbucks where they told her to sit.

So I sit with Amy until she cools down to Three Mile Island temperatures. Gary’s old Pastor came in and is with them now. I finally get in touch with Amy at 9:15PM only to find out they held Gary in recovery, lying to us all along as to why, because they didn’t want to tell us they didn’t have a room scheduled for him for a mandatory overnight stay they knew about months ago. I so do not want to be that hospital administrator when Amy gets a hold of him tomorrow! This is why Hospitals get sued. All they had to do was to be honest with us but they lied to us leading us to believe that something had gone wrong with Gary.

Okay, rant over, lights out, going to hit the rack.

Thanks to you folks and a great surgical team our son is going to be just fine!

Blessings along with our deepest heartfelt thanks to all of you.

Eric, Amy and Gary

The news sounds good. I’ll keep it on the prayer list, though.

With all the stress of the situation, is stinks you have to put up with the BS they handed you, too.

The very best to you and Gary from Kansas.

Prayers to you all to get through this.
Just saw the post, glad to hear that he is coming through this okay.

Hello to all. Gary came home Friday morning. He is doing very well despite a little bit of temperature and some discomfort. Incision is healing rapidly.

Now we wait for him to heal completely so the radioactive iodine treatment can commence. That will ensure that all thyroid cells in his body are killed.

Between having to work and helping to take care of Gary I am bushed. I am also so ready for a day on the water!

Thanks for the update Eric. All good news. Now, go fishing. And when you catch a fish, name him Joe. Pat him on the head and let him go.
