Surf Perch Heaven...

I’ve been dabbling in the dark arts of saltwater fishing from the beach this summer…here’s a few things I’ve found…

How many of you folks hit areas where you can catch these guys?

Rods: Blue Halo Gen1 8’ 6wt glass; Fisher 8’6" 6/7wt glass
Line: 200gr Rio Avid 24’ sink tip (love this line for this application).
Flies: chenille & marabou in red and orange. that’s it.
Fish the seams, troughs & rips…

Cheers,
Randy

Great photos Randy. Thanks for posting them and best of luck with those surf perch.

Very nice photos. Are those surf perch edible?

No surf perch here…but we can provide the other half of a “surf and turf”!
Great pictures!! Thanks for sharing them.

They are. I don’t eat fish, but everything I’ve heard is that they are really good light, white & flakey.

They are tons of fun, and a little like bluegill on some serious steroids.

Nice images. We fishe th beaches for perch and other critters here in SoCal year round. 20 years ago I rarely saw another fly angler on the beach. Today more unusual not to see one, especially on weekends.
