Stumbled upon a good deal, I think...

Here in my area we have an Orvis retail store and an Orvis outlet. The outlet is closing in a month so everything’s going cheap. I’ve never fished it but I got a new spool of Generation 3 trout Wonderline WF-3-F for $15. Couldn’t pass up the deal since it sells for close to $60 retail. Anyone ever tried this line?

I stumbled into a closing/moving Orvis store and bought a Gen 3 Wonderline DT3 for $30. I have 8 Wonderlines and like them for my Trout fishing. They are good lines and you got a great deal.

I have a WF/5/F and like it a lot. It stays floating a long time, without using anything extra on it, (floatant), and seems to also stay very clean, when used in stillwater situations. And, yes, you got a good deal!

The Wonderlines are also on sale on the Orvis website. My question is WF or DT? I fish medium sized streams with drys (size 12-24) and nymphs (size 12-26). I have always used WF lines in the past but the ads for Wonderline DT says it’s easier to mend. Any thoughts on the advantage of WF over DT or visa versa?

For $15, i’d get both. The DT lines are great for gentle presentations and they mend well. Many people will overline the DT lines, by one or two, for fishing the smaller, brushier streams, to help load the rod faster.
If you’re fishing slightly larger, more open streams or rivers, I would stick with the WF. Especially, if wind is going to be a factor.

For $15 bucks you cannot go wrong!

That’s a fantastic buy! Is that the Williamsburg Outlet? If so, that’s a shame, 'cuz it was a favorite “stop-off” on our way to/from the Outerbanks of NC.

I have a DT3F wonderline that I really like. Its a great line. You got a score! I bought mine online for $10 but it had been used once or twice.

I love the Orvis Wonderlines. I’ve got them in 6, 4 and 2 WT.

You got a GREAT deal!

I’ve used the wonderlines… they were good. I always prefer DT when using 4 weight or below. for 15 bucks… not even a question about the deal.
