I’ve been to REC & Jann’s Netcraft and can’t find one. I’m looking for an uplocking, sliding band, swollen butt cork reel seat and I can’t find one anywhere. I’d like it for a banty boo rod I’m trying to fabricate out of a mid section and tip section of an old rod. Does anyone know where I can find one on the market?
Thanks,
REC does carry a cork sliding ring seat … PLRN … in their nickel silver line. Is this what you meant?
That’s close Betty. What I am really interested in is an uplocking seat like the PLRW, only in cork. Like this one, but cork;

Joe,
Could you not get the hardware only for the recessed set, and the PLRN , and modify it?
Betty
Or get the hardware, and have Smersky make a reel seat for you!!

I don’t recall that Smernsky has ever indicated that he makes cork reel seats as well as custom cork grips, but I bet that if you gave him your specs for the cork reel seat you want, he could put one together that would be better quality than anything you can get in a store anyway ??
He could even do a custom look, which certainly wouldn’t be available from REC, Struble, etc. And he just did a rod with some custom hardware so he might help you on that part of it also ??
Ask nicely and see what happens.
John
I’m with Betty on this. Buy the cork, make your reel seat and use the hardware. Is this what you’re looking for?

You might want to check out Rush River Rods. I have built several small rods using his sliding rings which are 1st class. He also has the type of hardware you mention without the insert. You can make your own insert by glueing and shaping cork rings. It’s relatively easy. Just spin the cork with a drill and sand to shape. Good luck
Try Angler’s Workshop. I was looking at their catalog this morning, and I think they have what you want. It’s the sliding band seat with a slightly swollen butt to hold the bands in place. You combine it with the handle you want to get the uplocking function. It’s shown as FG 15 in the section on rear grips on page 146 of the catalog.
However, having said that, I’ would probably do as suggested by others and do it myself.
I’m in the process of rebuilding my first hand-built fly rod, which has a sliding band reel seat, and my thin the butt to conform to this shape.
